This is what brings Zibanejad into the conversation, dealing with Patrik Allvin, dealing with a city that has a slight obsession with Swedes, dealing with a player on a very similar contract, and doing as much as they can to make sure their real franchise C isn't going to want to bolt out the door one day soon. I don't think Vancouver wants an Eichel tier situation to occur with Elias. Drury & Allvin can dress up this type of trade however they want, Schneider, picks, prospects, etc. Kypreos said it best imo. It's a risk for both teams regardless but I think both NYR & VAN have found themselves in situations this year that calls for some risk taking.
Rick Dhaliwhal has already stated that the Canucks have zero interest in taking Mika Zibanejad back in any trade.

Are things really that bad that the two can’t make things work? What are they even fighting about. Sounds like it’s about petty differences.
Clearly it's more than petty differences when the GM decides to tell the world Elias is being a baby.

I'm not eager to get rid of him at all. He will undoubtedly bounce back; he needs a solid off-season to rejuvenate. Rangers have played a lot of playoff hockey the last 3 years. I think that's something a lot of people aren't factoring in to their current situation. They look like a team that's been thru some recent wars, because they are.

Do I think he's a 90 point player next season? No. But he'll be back to his 35/35 self if not better.
Rangers fans have little choice but to be resigned to that hope. Thinking that a team like Chicago will charitably take him on the downswing while he’s making big money for eternity is wishful thinking.

Where did you see this?
It was a twitter post quote from BuckFoston I believe, but was also said by Friedman that if the Canucks wanted to do something around Zibanejad he believes the deal would’ve already been made.

I just don’t see the Rangers as a realistic destination at all, it’s just the only team that the media has to go on right now because of Drury’s apparent interest in adding him for years.

Rumored guys that Vancouver would want back (Lafreniere, Schneider) are probably in the timeline of the group that the Rangers would want to build around. If the smoke about the Miller - Petey rift was true, I could see a Miller-Zibanejad swap and both teams call it a day and move on.

Canucks are not interested in Mika per Friedman and Dhaliwal

Pretty sure the only timeline the Rangers are worried about is winning games in the next few months.

Anything after April probably doesn't matter because Drury's not going to have a job if the Rangers miss the playoffs this year.

If Drury thinks MIller can help right now, today, more so than Lafrenierre and Schneider can, then I can see a trade there.

Not saying it's likely, but we all know what a desperation trade looks like here in Vancouver.

Rangers are now firmly in punt the season mode after losing in regulation today and with Louis Domingue starting tomorrow against Chicago.

They're not pursuing Miller unless it's a change of scenery type deal. Look like him and his best bud Petey are gonna have to hire a divorce mediator to work it out

As much as this should be the case I'm not sure it is. Got a feeling Drury is desperate and will try and salvage this season
