Rumor: JT Miller to the Rangers? (Part 2)

The Rangers suck and as good as Miller is, a 31 year old isn’t the answer.

First of all, the defense is a joke. It’s Adam Fox followed by Schneider who is rounding into a decent #4, Miller who has absolutely had a step back in his development this year and is playing like an inexperienced bottom pair, Lindgren who literally deserves to be collecting full disability at this point and is held together by duct tape and staples and then a bunch of 7/8 D men like Borgen, Vaakanainen, etc.

They’ve been outscored 72-36 over their past 19 games. That’s nearly 4 goals allowed per game. Miller isn’t going to fix that. And Vancouver probably wants Schneider, which is technically our #2 at this point.

The only way it makes sense for the Rangers is if they’re getting rid of Zibanejad somehow. Same age as Miller and Miller has 100x the heart and motor. But it still wouldn’t fix anything; the team would still be in shambles with no defense and now the highest paid goalie in the world on the IR while the team is already on a 4-15 skid. Miller isn’t going to win them any games, he would just be a much better 31 year old center to have on your books than Zib is.

I think Drury thinks there is a culture issue in the NYR dressing room, like they need an Alpha to right the ship. He likely targets JT Miller then fixes the defence.

If Miller is going to NYR then salary needs to come back but Zib ain't it. To move his contract would require sending back major assets to offset that.

It can be done but Rangers gonna have to give up a ton in order to make it happen.

It actually doesnt make sense for Van. Kreider is great but unless he can play C then its no use to Van.

Current Centres on the roster after a Miller trade

Pettersson
Suter (hybrid)
Bleuger
Raty
Aman

Any trade involving Miller will almost certainly return a Centre.

The Rangers 1st is going to be in the Top 10, very possibly Top 5. Miller is not worth close to that, especially when adding Schneider. Kreider put up a career high in points last season, and is pretty easy to move with retention.

Unless one of those 2 clubs has another deal in the wings to flip those assets to get a C. Van basically swapped Horvat out (1st from NYI plus their one 2nd in 2023, basically what they valued Raty at) to get Hronek not long after.

Ya that would make sense if its a 3 way deal. but if its Van and NYR strictly, a Centre is coming back

Only other C i can think of from NYR is Chytil. Maybe we see something astronomical like

Fox, Chytil for JT Miller, Hoglander.

I wonder if Fox didnt want to play in Canada or just Calgary.

I agree, but you still have to purge the bad elements of the culture (Zibanejad, Kreider, etc.) which is easier said than done, especially with Zibanejad, plus add more than just one guy to rebuild the culture (though Miller is a good start culturally) AND fixing the D is also a lot easier said than done. We have like no valuable assets. I have no idea how Drury realistically improves this team ON a timeline that even makes sense for acquiring 31 year old players. Miller definitely helps build that culture, but the fixes this roster needs will take 2-3 years before they can start climbing the mountain again.

the 1st isnt the main piece. NYR can make it top 12 protected if they want.

Canucks arent going to wave the white flag on the season which is essentially what they would be doing if you have Pius Suter as our 2nd line C.

Zib or Chytil is coming back along with a huge package is NYR is into Miller.

Oh boy, another Canucks mega thread based on speculation

I still think Zibanejad, Schneider and a 1st for Miller should be fairly close, but I'm not nearly as down on Zibanejad as others are.

I agree....I'm just speculating.

Chytil and KAndre Miller isnt going to get JT Miller tho.....there would be like dozen teams that would beat that offer in a heartbeat....I guess you can throw in picks and prospects but the Canucks arent rebuilding, maybe they can use it as bullets to make other trades?

Fox very very specifically wanted to play in NY and specifically for the Rangers. He forced himself there from Carolina. He's not waiving even if the Rangers finish dead last for the next 5 years.

Zib is a non-starter in my opinion. I can't imagine Vancouver takes on that contract. I would say like Chytil, KAM, 1st (top 10 protected) is something that could work but personally if I were Van I wouldn't love it. Maybe something around Laf? I dunno as Van and NYR don't really seem like good trade partners but maybe a 3rd team gets involved.

If the canucks were to move miller and assuming zib had to be a part of it these are the only things that make sense to me from canucks side. Otherwise I would want nothing to do with Zib.

Zib 50% retained, Schneider, 1st/prospect

Zib, Schneider, Perrault/Othmann, 1st/prospect, pick

Lol tell the NYR GM that, hes the one that is being reported to really really really want JT Miller.

IMO it will be something like..

Zib, K.Miller. 1st

Maybe switch K Miller to B Schneider depending on who Canucks prefer.
Congrats you’ve correctly assessed the assets it would take to dump Zib. Now what are you giving for Miller?

By the way, with JT Miller "drama" this season.

He has 24 Points in 26 games.

Almost matching his pace the last 3 years

That’s a fair trade for JT but doesn’t really move the needle for NYR when they also lose Chytil.

Barry Trotz is dumb and desperate enough to try something around Miller. Nothing he likes more than a guy locked up until his late 30s. I have no idea what Vancouver would want back, nor do I really have interest in trying to figure out a value deal. I do however think Trotz would be heavily interested and likely give up a lot to get Miller.

Lindholm who couldnt hold Millers shadow went for :

1st, 4th, Hunter Bruz

I believe that is the most recent trade of a high profiled Centre. I could be wrong.

Miller is going to return a Centre no matter what. There's other choice. I think theres going to be a huge demand for Miller. Especially teams looking for an Alpha and a culture change along with what Miller brings on the ice.

Some Centres I can see returning in a Miller trade as part of a package:

Zibanejad/Chytil
Cozens/Thompson
Necas/Jarvis
Barzal
Laughton/Frost

32 year old ain't returning some of those pieces .. haha

He has a full, no trade clause, he would have to waive himself.

He’s been the second best Canucks player in the last three seasons.

Having a bad season alongside the rest of our roster.

Top 10 and scoring in the last three seasons, and the best player for us in the playoffs last season.

It’s gonna be very interesting to see how much this “rift” lowers his value if at all.

Honestly, I don’t think it does, especially if the Rangers go after him, they want him badly apparently.

A RHD will have to be included.
As a nucks fan I can't wait till we start winning again so all these idiot media with absolutely no connections stop with the trolling.

All this drama has been so glorified by the outside and it's honestly ridicules. We are not trading a C or one of our best players in JT or EP, since any return would have to include a C as good so what's the point.

I know the truth isn't as exciting to explain why the nucks have struggled and are frustrated but the truth is no other playoff calibre team has had blow after blow since the start of the season. When combined with how bad some players were the first 10 games and Silovs and Demko costing us game game after game (Demko will be fine) reason says to add dmem with picks and prospects but any other move would be just dumb and I doubt it's even being considered.

Tochett on the other hand and his love for plugs and his terrible line combos is really begining to piss me off.
