Taking a step back, I think JT's leave is the organization learning from EP's struggles and making the right decision collaboratively with the player. Instead of struggling through it, makes so much more sense to take some time off and recalibrate. Probably some learnings from the whole Mik debacle too.

This is 100% the right move to make, rest him till he’s ready.

My dudes, let's just chill on any Miller criticism for now. I have a feeling this is much much worse than we all imagine. The fact he played at all this season is crazy. Some stuff I read...well I just hope its flat out wrong about the long term implications of this

Injured non-roster functions the way that normal Injured Reserve does for the most part — Miller’s cap hit still counts on the books but the club gets an extra spot on the 23-man roster — the only exception is that it’s somewhat more flexible. Miller was pulling positive goal differentials and putting up a point per game while playing high leverage minutes. His legs went in the last 2 or 3 games he played but claiming he was a liability is functionally insane. Like actually WTF.

Completely agree (along with Royal and a couple others). Anyone who is comparing Miller's early season performance to EP is frankly out to lunch. My hope is that he gets the rest he needs mentally, physically, and comes back to a team that is less reliant on him driving effort, etc. I fully expect he and the team will be better for it.

When Boeser went down it very quickly became apparent how much he'd been carrying Miller this season.

Glad Miller is taking time off now, wish he'd just done it back in October instead of waiting.

Kinda feels like this whole story has been brushed aside a bit, but realistically is quite a big deal, especially for a player of such magnitude, and not even two months into the season.

Why not just call him injured upper body four to six weeks and leave it at that ....

Difference is Petey played for 4 months after injury. Miller played like a month and then the effects showed.
Petey was still player of the month by end of Jan and his performance dropped around all star game. Miller played fine in the beginning and then play dropped about a month in.

Turns out playing players when they are injured is fine in the short term but eventually the injuries will take over, what a concept.

I didn't mention anything about LTIR or cap accrual, nor am interested in discussion on either, but am aware how they function.

It's being brushed aside because it's not really anyone's business beyond what has been publicly declared.

The whole situation is highly unusual, in its magnitude to the team, to how it developed, to possibly it's duration, and yet has largely been a non story since the also unsual press release..

I get that the point is privacy and time for whatever the issue(s) is, but that doesn't take away from a highly unusual, impactful situation that could have been handled several other ways also. Multiple aspects are highly unusual for a player of such stature and early in the season, possibly unprecedented.

If that was happening to Matthews or Marner in toronto it'd be the biggest story leading every show every day day for weeks.
