Little bit at the end here on Miller. Nothing we don't already know.

  • Hasn’t physically right since the start of the season
  • His frustration level grew and that became difficult mentally
  • Needs a reset; needs to heal both physically and mentally
  • Canucks have been really supportive and stand behind behind

I think this should end the speculation (I mean no way it will end it… but it should).

He was clearly hurt, and is the type of player where his frustration probably just grew to the point where it was like take some time off… both physically and mentally. I think it was probably the team pushing him to make this type of call.

Also, great article in CA!

I wonder why the team doesn't just say that he's injured and want him to take his time to heal fully. There would be zero speculation in that case. Everyone can tell that he is injured. The concern is that the mental aspect is bad enough that it could be weeks so they couldn't just lean on the injury aspect?

It definitely does seem like an odd decision, though, to do it this way instead of just saying 'he's been playing hurt since the start of the season and we've just made the decision to shut him down for a few weeks to heal up'. As soon as the words 'personal reasons' are used for anything, it's like a bat signal for toxic fans to come out of the woodwork and act like total assholes.

what exactly is unreasonable about rick here? don't gossip is pretty reasonable.
For one, and there is more than one, Dhaliwal down-plays the situation and implies that in spite of this major announcement by Allvin and the Canucks, that Miller could be out only 4 days just because he got benched for one period of one game. You don't make major announcements like this about a player that needs what amounts to little more than a maintenance day.

If Miller needs a "reset" warranting a major announcement by the Canucks and extended time off because he's butthurt like Dhaliwal suggests, then trade him immediately. He's mentally weak and not the type of player we need.

But that's not J.T. Miller and we all know it. He is a warrior.

Still fail to see why they deemed it necessary to basically make him non-rostered (which is largely unprecedented outside of extreme external circumstances) and put out some cryptic press release.

This sounds like a fairly compelling case for IR. Just say the injury became too much and he needed time off.

Instead you make it sound like he’s a drug addict or having a nervous breakdown.

Could be as @Wisp mentioned maybe he doesn’t fit certain nhl protocols? Or there is just our management team seems to be bad at dealing with this type of thing.

lets trade Dhaliwal instead.

Ya, it makes no sense at all. They had a lay up here where they could have just said he's banged up and has been dealing with things, and left it at that. No one would have thought twice about it and then he could deal with any personal things he's got going on, plus healing his nagging injuries, without any scrutiny. But instead, they've created a huge story, and when he does return, he going to get a bunch of questions about it.

I do wonder, though, if this was put to Miller and he was fine announcing it for personal reasons, and he didn't want to hide behind any injury even if there was one. This would be pretty consistent with Miller's character IMO, so may be the answer. And frankly, there really shouldn't be any abnormal press or scrutiny for this type of announcement vs. injuries.

was at the Preds game behind the bench and he looked miserable all game. Wrist/shoulder has been an issue since camp but i noticed him holding up his left skate as he was coming off which looked like an ankle from maybe a blocked shot or something else??

You dont use the term "leave" though for injuries so he's obviously going through something personnel that broke recently and has added more to the mix. I don't care to speculate about that and just hope he heals up soon this team gets healthy and grows stronger from all the adversity

I hate that this generation of people don’t know how to respect a person that literally just requested for leave due to personal reasons.

There was a direct question to Tocchet asking if Miller sitting in the third was due to injury and he flatly said "No". If they come out and say Miller is hurt, it hurts Tocchet's credibility.

They are probably a little sensitive about mishandling injury situations and legal ramifications after the Pearson and Demko injuries and setbacks.

Pure speculation, but if there was a reaction by Miller about his benching which crossed a professional line, labelling it an injury sets a bad precedence for the others in the organization.

I like Montgomery as a coach. That Boston team very overrated.

Add Mason Lohrei to the list of defence acquisitions.

This isn't about the benching.

He was noticeably miserable before the puck dropped on Sunday. I doubt he had told Tocchet anything at that stage. Tocchet is one of JTs biggest supporters.

Yeah, his media scrum after the Islanders game (I think, maybe the Edmonton game) he just looked absolutely miserable and I remember thinking it looked a bit off at the time.

Really sucky news to hear about Miller, it will definitely take its toll on this roster. Regardless all of this doesn't matter, the only thing that matters is that JT Miller is alright. Hopefully he has a full recovery on whatever is ailing him.

Miller is a warrior and I wish him the best.

The only way I can make sense of it is either Miller asked for this directly, or it's some sort of NHL policy where they had to disclose it this way. Otherwise, it's a majorly stupid move if they either forced this on the player, or just did it thinking it was the best communications strategy.

i'll refrain from speculating but miller has been removed from the roster and is not on ir. there's not a lot of cba reasons that's allowed
