If the Canucks can get Alexis Lafreniere for JT Miller that would be a HUGE acquisition and absolutely worthwhile doing. Mika Zibanejad should NOT be the main target. Focus on ceiling. Lafreniere has the highest ceiling amongst players NYR are likely to move. Worry about getting a 2C in a subsequent trade after (Cozens could be available? Dawson Mercer?)

I was thinking of the trade possibilities. LAF + Schneider was the rumored deal for JT which if true is good value. There's some risk with LAF, but at the time of his contract signing, the majority of Rangers fans seem to think it's a potential steal. Of course, LAF has reverted back to his previous play. He would also be a fit on the PP as he likes the left wall apparently. I would take the swing here. Too bad Kakko was traded as I liked him as a breakout candidate as well.

As for what NJ can offer, Nemec + Dawson makes sense but Nemec is a RHD and I'm a bit old school in that I don't like young players like him complaining about not being in the NHL (unless the reasons are absolutely legit which it sounds like it is not). I'm more intrigued by Silayev but he's further away from contributing which management might not like. I would imagine that the Canucks want Siegenthaler, but I'm not sure the Devils would be willing to part with him given that they're not really in a position to subtract from the left side without impact their Cup chances.

He's 32 with an $8M cap hit, and has not played up to the level of his contract. He's a cancer in the locker room, and if the Canucks can get anything good for him they should absolutely pull the trigger. If they can't, well even just cutting their losses and clearing that cap space would be a win.

Since Miller signed his contract he has scored 134 unique points in 116 games, not sure how you can say he hasn't earned the $8 million he's getting.

They wouldn't even be contemplating moving him if it wasn't for off ice issues in the room. But it appears those issues may actually exist so after options have been exhausted to fix the internal situation there is only one way to deal with it in the end. And that's moving the guy multiple other players in the room are done dealing with. And perhaps the coach is nearing the end of his rope as well with the player.

Miller is a hell of a player when he wants to be. He also seems just exhausting to deal with.

could be that.... or could be Chytil+Lindgren+1st..... Drury has the hots for Miller yet pulled his deal off the table on the 11th hour. I think we better expect to be underwhelmed as it keeps dragging on.

We arent stupid, we know the real problem with the team is the absolute cliff dropoff in skill on our backend.

Based on everything we've seen and heard, it's likely that he is "hot-headed" and highly competitive. He may have placed blame, called people out, or rubbed some players the wrong way. Overall he's appeared as if he can be an asshole at times. He needs to button that up if he's alienating teammates, but since we're not inside the locker room, we can only speculate about how challenging he might be to deal with.

However, I do believe he is injured. If there’s terminology for mental health issues in pro athletes, feel free to correct me. It’s possible he’s dealing with personal or family problems, alongside the pressures of being a top NHL player—enough to request a short leave of absence. I give huge props for doing so, there's still a big stigma associated with mental health, and doing so in this market is f***in brave. I mentioned in a "Going Home" youtube clip that it seemed like he was overwhelmed and stressed juggling his family life. It’s unlikely his healing process was complete in such a short time. Healing is a long process, and based on what we saw in the Coilers game, he may be making progress.

It may being blown out of proportion but there is an awful lot of smoke coming from media beyond the lower mainland. It seems that there have definitely been deals tabled and reasonably serious trade discussions. Nothing that has resulted in formal waiving of NTC/NMC though they may already know what teams on the surface he'd be willing to move to through his agent.

I don't disagree he might have issues but it does seem like the team feels it is time to maybe move on. Whether that is because there actually aren't extenuating circumstances in his life or that they don't feel he has seriously dealt with them despite support the end is the same.

I don't think they will jettison him just to get rid of him. They will want a good return and he won't be moved until they get what they want.

Hey Pauser, nice to see you on here again. I usually agree with a lot of your thoughts and know you are a passionate Canuck fan.

I feel Miller has played up to his contract cost. He has struggled a bit this year, but he is still the reason I think this team can compete for a cup.

Petterson on the other hand, has laid a giant egg since his contract renewal. And if there is anyone that could be moved for a fair return, that is what I want to see gone.

Granted their age difference and cup windows are 5 years apart, and these two players may never get it together at the same time. I hope they can both prove me wrong.

A healthy and motivated Demko could solve a lot of the troubles this team is going through, and I am hoping that happens sooner than later. Cheers

Not putting a lot of stalk into posters that said 5 1/2 yrs ago it was a bad trade coming out to justify their positions on a player they have never liked and suggesting the Canucks take a junk package and move on and that he's not living up to his contract.

And what has he done this season

He has the 44th highest cap hit among forwards and is 53rd among forwards in points per game (min 25 games). He hasn’t been so far off his value this year that it negates being a bargain last year.

The oldest, biggest posters have an ego and enjoy being right about stuff. Hating Miller is an extension of hating Benning, which has filled most of their online persona the last decade.

When Miller gets moved, they'll move on to wanting to blow everything up and rebuild, never graduating from the vortex of negativity they are complicit in.

Quinn is perhaps the greatest Canucks player ever, yet too many posters are willing to see him either forever unsupported and not surrounded by players of his ilk for a winning roster. They're willing to walk him out the door to satiate their egos.

Trading Miller is a franchise altering move. It will determine the legacy of this management group. It will alter the course of this franchise, both short and long term. Quinn will stay or leave based on what we do with the return, and potentially what free agents we target in the off-season.

How about we as a collective NOT rush this? That goes for a seemingly befuddled and impatient management group. I don't care if we have to sit Miller for 20 games, as long as the return isn't a soon-to-be 26 year old concussion magnet, a pending UFA bottom pairing D, and a 1st that apparently has conditions that the Canucks aren't willing to accept as of yet.
