He's 32 with an $8M cap hit, and has not played up to the level of his contract. He's a cancer in the locker room, and if the Canucks can get anything good for him they should absolutely pull the trigger. If they can't, well even just cutting their losses and clearing that cap space would be a win.

so what is the move here... trade or wait for more suitors.. offseason would be the logical choice IMO. or else its gonna be like luongo/schiender 2.0 trade the wrong guuy aka petterson if it goes that way and vancouver keeps miller.

The move is to listen to offers and flush out the market

Sit down with Hughes after 4 nations and see if there is a way forward and understand all the dynamics involved with the core

make moves accordingly without sacrificing value until deadline

Then be bold with more teams in the mix in the off season when picks are most valuable so we can add win now pieces

Any fire sale desperate trader notion needs to be squashed

If the Canucks can get Alexis Lafreniere for JT Miller that would be a HUGE acquisition and absolutely worthwhile doing. Mika Zibanejad should NOT be the main target. Focus on ceiling. Lafreniere has the highest ceiling amongst players NYR are likely to move. Worry about getting a 2C in a subsequent trade after (Cozens could be available? Dawson Mercer?)

It's clear that Miller has to go though. You can see his body language and the problems that his presence has created with the team.

If I had to guess Id say he is dealing with a neck / shoulder / nerv thing.

Having dealt with that sort of thing myself I agree, and it tends to be a long-term issue.

I don't believe he's been right physically at any point this season, and unfortunately with his age and the way he plays I can see that becoming a recurring theme.

I think the reason we the team feels like it has to move on is because JT crossed the line and it’s not the 1st or 2nd or 3rd time.
I think we all have experiences like that where somebody just keep crossing the line and at some point, you just can’t deal with it anymore even though you like the guy.

Yeah, something likely changed recently.

Until now it felt like the team was listening on offers for both Miller and Pettersson, and were open to moving one if they got the right return. Otherwise they may as well hold out until the offseason and deal with it then.

Pettersson and Miller have clearly not liked each other for a while so that doesn’t seem like enough to accelerate moving on from one.

We also know that the team loves Miller the player, that if they force the issue mid-season they are likely going to lose any deal in the short-term which hurts their ability to compete, and even though he’s below his level of play in recent years he’s still a good player.

And if Miller was the one in the room that was in favour with the other key players given that I’m not sure he’s the one they’d move on from. Pettersson is younger but he’s been pretty poor for 12 months now, the team is clearly not happy with him, he can be traded anywhere, and he would likely actually bring back some grade A assets in return. I know there’s a handshake deal that he wouldn’t be traded but if he’s being a baby then they have good reason to back out and management hasn’t shown any qualms about being cutthroat.

The only things that make sense to me are:

- Miller has asked out.

- Key players other than Pettersson or Tocchet also want him gone.

- Management has information that his decline this year is not just due to temporary factors and want to move on before the league figures it out.

Otherwise the sequence of events don’t make much sense to me.

Pettersson is a great talent but he's nothing without a couple other top players who can be driving forces behind 4 playoff rounds. This last year has been eye opening

They will never replace Miller. I know some of you like to think we can leverage assets to get back but it's so remote and the remaining top scorers become laughably small and weak.

Miller going may be the right move for unity but it will be devastating. He's a 58% face off guy runs the PP and between peak Demko and Hughes the most influential player in fabricating wins.

I cant even remeber the last time i saw Boeser or Pettersson grab a game by the throat and dominate

I actually believe both of them that the feud is overblown. Pettersson seemed really pissed at the media narrative. JT Miller tried to quash it completely.

I'm inclined to think that their struggles are only tangentially related, and while it's hard to piece things together given the lack of info, there has to be more to the story.

There was a sequence late in a game before a faceoff a couple weeks back where Miller was doing his usual barking at people and waving his arms around trying to get a defenseman to move to whatever position he wanted him in (which, like, this is a whole other thing, but the team will usually have set face-off configurations - why is Miller waving his arms around and calling audibles all the time?).

The broadcast went to an ice-level camera, and you could clearly see Boeser look over at the defeseman, make eye contact, give a big eye roll and the very tired "get a load of this f***ing prick" look that anyone who has worked with an insufferable know-it-all coworker knows well, and then everyone just stayed in their original positions while Miller kept flapping his arms and shouting at them. IIRC, Miller got tossed from the dot anyway.

I remember taking note of this because it was a pretty clear indication that dude was wearing on everyone's patience.

DeBrusk is quoted as saying the reason he chose Vancouver, was the opportunity to play with a top center, like either Pettersson or Miller.

Too bad for him, he couldn't read between the lines that the two guys apparently can't co-exist together.

It's just so hard to replace 100-point centers......and will prove all but impossible for the Canucks to get equivalent value back. I'm sure they'll hold out for a center in any deal, but he'll probably never be able to drive a line like Miller does, when he's focused mentally and playing his power game.

I’ve mentioned it before, but I don’t think it is a coincidence that Miller’s benching/leave was right after he let a pass that led to a goal get through him because he was too busy yelling at Pettersson.

Disagree about Petey but also don’t want to detail this thread. Only thing I’ll say is I think he’s still suffering from tendonitis and power wise, his body can only provide like 70-80% of what he is used to and that’s limiting what he can do. Anyway…

I think even Miller recognizes that he’s probably cross the line too much so you see those games where he looks checked out but it’s probably just him reeling his emotions in but the trade off is him looking and acting disengaged and ineffective. Also feels like he know he crossed the line too much and it’s making the whole environment toxic and everything is just awkward.
