I would take neither, if this is how it's going to be. It's pretty appalling given they're also both wearing letters as part of the core leadership group.

Miller looks much different now since his absence.
Much calmer and without that "drive" he seemed to have before. An almost total lack of emotion on the bench.
For him I don't know if the removal of emotion is a good thing in his play.
I sure hope this new attitude isn't about acceptance of the current play, that isn't what makes his game shine.

He looks checked out to me. Shame, he's a force of nature when he's on.

I don't think he looks checked out IMO, just clearly frustrated...the body language IMO is one of being frustrated and deflated at the ends of his shifts. Watching him take faceoffs he looked highly engaged and intense at the beginning of his shifts but when they accomplish nothing, he gets down...I think the lack of results is pretty clearly getting to him.

His time here should be done. He's dragging his feet on the ice and pouting at teammates.
He's already done something so egregious that the team basically told him to sit at home for a month and think about what he's done.
The vibes when Miller was out were much better. He's been a good player for VAN, but when things aren't good, he just actively makes them a lot worse.

There is also just his age and his prihevted surplus value, or lack thereof. But JT is tough to read and predict. Everyone wanted to trade him two years ago and he followed that up with two years of excellent play.

Weird that I need to be that guy but JT Miller is a fantastic hockey player.
He is in a deep slump and posters are being way too hard on him and fatalistic about his future here.

Miller's answers in the end of year media availability for the year Boudreau got fired and Tocchet came in seem as interesting and relevant now as they were then. He spoke very well about his tendency to "get out of his lane" trying to fix other people's problems rather than his own and how Tocchet understands what he goes through both physically and mentally.
I think it's fair to say some of the bad habits Miller alludes to in his answers here have been back this season during games at the very least, and for the first time under Rick.
JTM also says how the one thing he changed with Tocchet's guidance was just worrying about his own game, and how he now (then) had far more trust in the team's processes.

I'm beginning to seriously wonder if J.T. Miller is just not wired to survive in this hyper-sensitive market.
I suspect if he returned to an NHL market where hockey is basically an 'afterthought', he might play on a more even-keel. Then, the only people who'd care about what he does on and off the ice would be the coaches, teammates and management.

I think one has to attend an NHL game in a sunbelt state to realize how little it really matters, once you get beyond the rink parking lot.
The QB of the local NFL team gets more social media traffic in one hour than the NHL team gets in a week. The unfortunate reality is that there's a lot of players who thrive on low taxes and the almost total lack of notoriety. They could eat every day at McDonalds, and nobody would know who they were.
There's a reason why Paul Kariya wanted nothing to do with playing in his home-town and spent most of his career in Anaheim......where Disneyland ticket prices are more of a talking point than NHL tickets at the Duck Pond.
I still think Miller, who is an American, would be probably be better off in a market like that.

IIRC, Kariya signed a one-year deal with Anaheim with a 10m QO as a means of maneuvering himself into UFA status early, and then refused to talk to the Ducks about re-signing him at a lower price (which, IIRC, was what they'd agreed to do when he initially signed that 1yr/10m deal) and signed with the Avs for 1.2m as a UFA. He borderline scammed his way out of Anaheim.
Fans chant "J. T. MILLER" at every opportunity they have. The market shouldn't be the issue.

I mean... he didn't exactly have success in any of those markets. If anything, he acted out worse without the market scrutiny there.
Maybe Miller is a different guy now but it's hard to say that definitively when he's back to his Boudreau sulking and giving up on plays days. The Miller of last season would have thrived anywhere. The Petey from the first half of last year or the season before would've dominated anywhere. The market isn't the end all be all. It doesn't help for sure but these guys have doen well here with that market pressure before.

People have shit all over Pettersson but have given Miller so many passes. It's a weird one to me. Unlike Miller, Petey never ran away and hid for a month .

You’ve got to be kidding…there are factions who mercilessly rip on both players. And they’ve both been deserving and undeserving of some of the criticism, but its been pretty equally doled out.
People have picked teams in a single team. People are so easily divided and we didnt even need the ruling class to pull the strings this time

Exactly right…people here bitch about everyone and everything, even when things are going well they’ll find a reason to bitch. lol
There can kinda be a ruling class pull strings as management has been stoking the flames for a bunch of stuff but never towards themselves. Theyve never taken responsibility for letting Zads walk or assembling the worst D in the 3-8 positions
