News Article: Josi diagnosed with heart condition

You cant play hockey with beta blockers. You just cant. Those restrict performance too much
I'm sure you have some knowledge here but I know the poster you responded too, and he's an actual medical doctor. I'm not saying you're in are in disagreement with him, he might agree with you. I'm saying before you put the boxing gloves on, you need to know the weight class of the guy your going rounds with.

From my own experiences, have tried many and lower dosages also. Heart rate doesnt go above 130 and muscles feel very weak and you get tired much quicker. Hard to imagine someone using them in such quick sport

Well the decreased heart rate definitely affects your VO2Max, so I'd also assume it significantly decreases your physical capabilities. Shorter shifts, less ice time. How much exactly it's gonna affect his performance? No idea. Just assuming it's significant. What's "significant" is another topic, but I'd consider an ice time reduction of 20% a significant drop, but then again, it's just an uneducated guess. Perhaps @BigFatCat999 has some experience with athletes on beta blockers or Doc has some stats up his sleeve.

When you say its a nervous system issue, could that be linked to his concussions?
Probably not. If I had to guess I'd says its from the fact that he asks his body for a big burst of adrenaline off and on for sixty minutes every other night and so now every time he stands up after sitting down his body thinks he's taking a shift on the PP

As to the obvious question of why more hockey players dont have it, the answer is I dont know..

Maybe this is the beginning of the end for Josi but I've also seen enough pro athletes and hockey players in particular deal with things that normal humans can't that it's definitely far too early for me to write him off.
