Player Discussion Joshua Roy

Weird that they haven’t sent him down yet. I’m sure it’s coming. They aren’t going to just scratch him. I’ll bet Davidson or Flojak gets called up.
 
Joshua need a HUGE summer. His progress has stalled. He needs to come in next year stronger, faster and in the best shape of his life if he wants to play in the NHL.

Huge summer or not, hell never be faster or have a different playstyle. Hes the player he is and will never be anything else if hes not given a fair chance.

Roy might have hit his ceiling. He always managed to excel at every level but NHL might be too much for him. He might just be a career AHLer

Roy is swimming against the current now. He no longer has special status as a fresh destroyer of the CHL. He needs to improve a lot as every year there are new rookies coming in.

Sure but we've used 19 Fs this year, 21 last year, 25 the year before, 26 the year before that, and it goes on. There's a lot of spot duty to be had and Roy will almost certainly get some.

I don't watch games Habs lose so I don't know how Roy is doing.

The last time I saw Roy in the AHL, Maillioux lost the puck and the guy who stiped him didn't score, but the guy following him did. Guess who didn't bother to back skate? I was actually so surprised to see the over the net and down the ice shot that showed clearly Roy just ambled along while watching it all. He just couldn't be bothered to put an effort.

A few games later, he's up and playing for the Habs.

So how is he doing? Or back to the AHL?
 
Montreal’s game is built on speed which is why you see players like Roy, Gallagher so as hell.
There’s not many teams that isn’t built on speed.
Roy will fit with teams like Detroit, Dallas, Washington, Nashville, Buffalo and Anaheim to name a few.
He will not fit with Edmonton, Colorado, Toronto, New Jersey etc because he will look very slow.

It’s unfortunate but I think Roy will be traded this summer maybe to move up in the draft order.
 
Still believe in this player. Nice potential and under normal circumstances I'd say we should be playing the crap out of him.

But I don't know that he's going to fit here. Very similar situation to Struble. Good player/prospect that I'd love to keep but don't see a spot for. Roy deserves a shot to make the NHL but I don't know that he's going to get that shot here.

Makes more sense to sit Kapanen imo. If he was not signed he would sit in Europe for the summer anyway like Demidov. He played more than enough games this year already. We can't enter the playoffs with Pez as the main guy on the bench. In 1993 we had guys like Ramage and Leeman on the bench who were pretty good players albeit at the end of their career. If we make the playoffs we'll have to have a better bench. Kapanen makes sense as he did not play in the AHL this year so there could be a risk of breaking the chemistry of the team if he is sent down.

Can he? depends with whom he is on a line with. His current audition is indicating that he might yield better results if teamed with workhorse type players with tenacity, talent and speed, who among Montreal's roster would that include and exclude?

I think its time for people to stop making excuses for this underperforming player. Roy, who has excellent hand skills and who sees the ice well, simply has failed to exhibit the mobility and intensity that would allow him to be an effective offensive player at the NHL level. While still young, the window for Roy to make the Canadiens is rapidly shutting. Never a fan of this player, I have seen nothing that would convince me that he is in the team's long term plans. The team will have much better options going forward.

As a newcomer it doesn't take long to see what's going on here, an inordinate amount of pareidolia. I saw him play in junior a few times and he was good, but that is junior and hasn't really grown much since and has stagnated. That happens to most juniors, just don't have what it takes to make it to the NHL. He's a good AHL player and there is no crime in that.

If that does happen this season it's probably due to a ton of injuries, and if beyond this season, something must have gone horribly wrong somewhere along the path or else Roy has had some sort of miracle intervention and fully transformed into an adequate player.

Seems as if google translate has let you down there ace as it's clear you don't understand. I have never ever heard anyone say that scoring a goal by shooting the puck was described as a pretty goal, that has to be one of the most insane things I ever heard,... shooting is pretty! hilarious. What's next? Saying a goal is a goal? that sounds like a desperate attempt to defend poor performance.
 
It's totally possible he gets traded because he ends up unable to crack the top 6 over Demidov/Slafkovsky/Caufield/Laine and doesn't fit the identity they want for the third line, but I don't see why we're looking at him like he's out of runway now. Doesn't really make sense to abandon this guy when he's still just 21. It hasn't clicked this year at the NHL level but it's not like there weren't positive signs last season. One injury might be all it takes for him to get a shot with eg. Laine + our new 2C next year and run with it.

I just don't really buy the compete level stuff. He's a cerebral player who isn't going to be skating his bag off every shift and that's fine. We all loved Toffoli and not every player needs to play like Gallagher.

Its not compete. Thats just the way he plays. Its people being stupid.

Anyway, best to move on from him for his career.
