Player Discussion Joshua Roy

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

In the meantime, feel free to join our Discord Server
I think that's a misconception.

A higher IQ player doesn't necessarily get more elegant goals, they might just get a larger number of garbage goals, by knowing when to roll in the mud.
A goal scorer gets all sorts of goals, not only garbage goals, they shoot, they deke.

Good for Roy to get those goals being johnny on the spot but a player like him should be getting more than so called garbage goals like Gallagher as that is not his type of game. Roy is not net-front nuisance pest battler and needs to be getting better looks.

A goal is a goal. Saying he should score prettier goals is nonsensical, especially when talking about a rookie.

With Demidov and the almost certain signing of a major free agent, that top six will be special.

The question is: can Roy even break the top 9? If he can’t, Roy will have to be special on some other team.

Yes the Habs will have Slafkovsky, Demidov, Caulfield, and Laine, but it's extremely unlikely that they'll have them for 82 games. Injuries are common.

I had such high hopes for him. He always seemed so silky with the puck. It's only his 2nd pro season so lots of time to turn it around though.

I like there’s competition for a bunch of tweeners to earn a spot finally
As long as our roster is infested with tweeners we will always be pretenders. With the high end prospects we have coming, the multiple high draft choices accumulated and the elite free agents we should be able to acquire, our top 3 lines should all be top notch. If we still have tweeners competing for our top three lines by 2027/ 2028, Hughes and co. have dropped the proverbial ball.

I get what you mean. Still a step up from Dadonov Drouin Hoffman and friends taking up all roster spots with no-one in the farm to challenge them anyways ;) Hoping a few of Roy, Beck, Hage, etc hit for the bottom 6.

Don't forget that we'll probably move on from some of the bottom 6 players (Armia etc.)
And we might have to trade someone to get that 2C.

So there is plenty of 3rd line opportunity for Roy and Kapanen.

That 2C will come from free agency. That’s how you should use free agency: as a finishing piece, not as a foundational piece. Foundational pieces rarely, if ever, hit free agency.

There’s a reason we have largely spent the last few decades being irrelevant. It wasn’t because of the weather. After watching this kid play at Michigan this year I have much higher expectations for Hage than bottom six. With his acceleration and puck skills if Hage gets stronger, it wouldn’t surprise me if he eventually pushes for 1C. As I have said, this kid reminds me of a young Mogilny.

No room currently tho. After season we get two open spots from armia and Dvorak. Demidov comes over next year so one left. If Hughes signs a 2C in UFA like Bennet (or re-signs Armia), then no more spots open.

If they want to improve, they're gonna have to trade some roster players most likely. Shit is about to go down this summer
