Player Discussion Joshua Roy

He is trying to adjust to the speed of things and it shows. I don't know if it's just his skating or if it's his decision making that is lacking. He needs more of a motor if he wants to take the next step. If he could catch a break in one of these games, a garbage goal or an assist on a goal it would give him more confidence.

He seemed more comfy in the second half of Saturday's game and might just be in on some scoring tonight.
We can hope he puts it together soon..............he will be getting passed on the depth charts real soon if not.

So many posters had him as a lock in the top 6 and a potential Calder trophy winner and yet here we are. As you said, he needs to show something soon because one would have to think he is on the verge of going back to Laval if not.

I have a hunch that he gets a goal or point tonight but I have been wrong many times before my friend.

If Roy hasn't figured out what he needs to work on by now, he'll never make it. His skating has always been what's holding him back. That and some effort, they're related
I don't necessarily agree, especially considering that the knock on him was specifically that he didn't take the off-ice stuff serious enough.
Good coaching mixed with maturity and some humility from him, and the discipline may come

Reactions: Miller Time
Was his best game from his call-up but still Marty isn't trusting him much, which makes sense, he hasn't shown to be trustworthy.

Few more games here and it might be time to try Farrell or Davidson.
Farrell was pure ass for most of the season in the AHL, calling him up because of a great stretch to play in the top 6 at the NHL during a critical stretch is a bad decision in my books. Especially with Roy looking increasingly comfortable and developing chemistry with Laine and Newhook.

Marty's comments seem to indicate that he is trusting Laine and Newhook a lot more in recent games. What happened last night, especially late in the 2nd, was that Roy was benched to rotate some other players on that line.

Not so sure about the conclusions your drawing...

Roy actually got more ES ice time than Laine, Heineman, Gallagher & Armia last night. Wouldn't expect that to be the case if the in-game line shuffling was to keep Roy on the bench. More likely is that it was situational adjustments based on matchups or transition shifts from special teams to ES.

He's not used at all on the PK or PP, so might be fair to say he isn't "trusted" to play in those units, but he's getting more ES ice time than Beck was given... and nightly he's being deployed more than Heineman.

Will be interesting to see how the next few games unfold as Roy gets more practice time in. How much he gets used (assuming he stays with the team) on the road trip next week will be a better reflection of how much he's earning, or not, the trust of the coaching staff
