Recalled/Assigned: Joshua Roy sent down to Laval (2025-04-17)

Perfect opportunity to step-up his game with Laval in the playoffs. A strong post-season will segue nicely for training camp and pre-season battle for a spot.

With Dvorak, Armia, and Pezzetta all likely leaving there could be a spot for him
If Roy is able to make the team it will mean that some of our more heralded prospects’. development has stalled or Hughes has been unable to acquire prime forward depth through trade or free agency.

Likely depends if HUGO add over the off-season, but I see him as having a good shot for the 13th forward and in case of injuries. Here's how I see their depth and roster

MTL Roster Locks:
*Suzuki, Caufield, Slafkovsky
*Dach, Laine, Newhook
*Demidov, Gallagher, Anderson
*Evans

MTL Roster Likely:
*Kapanen, Heineman

MTL Roster Battle:
*Roy, Farrell, Beck, Barre-Boulet, RHP

MTL Long-Shots for 25-26:
*Davidson, F.Xhekaj, Mesar

Likely Gone:
*Dvorak, Pezzetta, Armia

Not sure why this guy just doesn't put in the effort when he gets called up.
This is not a lack of efforts, Roy always had skating and motor issues over 200 ft. back to his junior days. He is a very talented kid, but those 2 specific flaws are very apparent in the pros, even with Laval you can see that the skating is below average as are the strength/stamina, which impacts his consistency over full games. Kid worked hard on his fitness, conditioning and all over the years, now lets see if he can reach another gear next off season, but Im not too optimistic personally at this point in his development.

Pretty much the way it is...........once exception Demi moves up and Newhook moves down.
That said, Dach could be part of a package that moves for another 2C.
Dach has had bad luck but now way they wait another year of him at C to see if he can handle it......

Someone is moving for a 2C..........and picks of course.

Heineman is a roster lock next season. Pretty sure Dvorak will re-sign, he's useful even when he doesn't produce, and he's well-liked in the room. Kapanen will probably be among those fighting for a spot, same with Davidson, but I don't see Barre-Boulet or RHP back, unless they want an AHL contract.

I like Heineman's chances of locking down a spot as well. He's no longer waiver exempt so it's pretty much 99% at this point
Dvo had a solid season, if the price and term are right I'm game with brining him back.
I think Kapanen has a good chance but he is exempt for one more season so easy to be sent down rather than lose someone else
Davidson quietly put up 24 goals in Laval. Exempt through 2026-27 so I'mm guessing back to Laval next season
ABB is a UFA so likely gone unless he's comfortable with Laval
RHP is RFA but he would need to be comfortable with his role primarily being Laval
