Recalled/Assigned: Joshua Roy recalled from the Laval Rocket

Heineman is 2 years older than Roy and was basically seen like a bust coming into this season.

Skating and effort has never been an issue for Heine though. Roy seems at times to just be going through the motions which has got to be infuriating to the coaching staff and management.

The clock is ticking for the young man, here anyways.

He definitely looked better than 9 points in 23 games. Not to mention that he wasn’t in the top 6 from the get go and he got those 9 points in and 18 game streak with low ice time. If you think I’m cherry picking stats then he’s 6th in PPG for forwards excluding Monahan who got traded. A key difference is the other guys were getting minimum 5 minutes more ice time per game. So in this context I thought he performed well and the eye test to me says he was our biggest offensive threat after the top line and Monahan getting traded. Heineman is producing less than that yet everyone thinks he’s doing well too.

I’m confused why it’s okay for Marty to hand minutes to players underperforming and being lazy, but not with Roy. There should be a standard here. Yes the proven players deserve more chances but it’s over 25% of the season now and they still don’t care.


How many players have an acceptable effort level in your eyes this season?

There are several guys, who on certain nights, the effort has been poor, one difference MSL put them on the team, and they obviously out performed Roy to begin with.
He should have been skating lights out if he thinks he belongs, and he has not, so he might just be ok with the AHL which could very well be good for his development.
I can tell you this, he is going to get passed by some who were drafted after him, if he doesn't turn it around.
Beck, Hage, Demidov of course, Mesar, the list goes on..............it is not going to get easier for him.

Our deadwood is soon to be moving out and more kids will be moving in....can he be one?

So is Mailloux also a lost cause and prone to getting lapped by other people we have drafted? Becuase they were from the same draft class and Roy is closer to an NHLer than Mailloux despite being drafted in the 5th.

Heineman has a physical aspect to his game and plays hard every single shift even when it doesn't show up on the scoresheet, he is a potentially good 3rd line NHLer.

I am not accusing you of cherry-picking stats and I think what you said is valid. I thought he would have come to camp ready to claim a spot but he didn't outplay anyone and got sent down.

Roy has only been back for 2 games and is probably trying to find his way, he may have a great game tomorrow and it will force the coaches hand to give him more. I felt that Xhekaj was being punished but maybe it was just a push in the right direction because his play has improved. The toughest obstacle for young players is finding consistency and maintaining good habits.

None of what you are saying helps Roy keep a spot.....he and only he can make it happen, and currently he is not.

Doesn't matter what you and I think.....................it does however matter how the organization thinks.

We will agree to disagree, but I was very disappointed with this kids camp, and here we are......I went from being high on him, to being let down pretty quickly. He could make it, but it's not a given at this point like many were putting him in the top 6, wow. Now that's a fall I am sure you can admit also.

Lots of other players on the habs are a concern, including the coaches.........again none of that matters to getting a Roy a spot.

It's hard to believe that people were ready to give him a top-six spot; he isn't that noticeable out there.

Consider the originators of such prophecies. A quick read around and you'll come across a full range of some questionable commentary. People telling people to chill out because Slafskovsky is doing fine, in a slump they say. He's been terrible aside from a few moments. Read that Matheson is the worst defenceman in the league, another good one. Another classic is some say that a primary assist is much more impressive than a secondary one, false! Every goal is unique and evaluated on a goal-by-goal basis. Often the least impressive aspect of the goal is the goal. Have even seen some mock the plus minus stat, no doubt due to ignorance and the list could go on and on but I can't. lol

To me, Roy isn't even close to being "NHL" ready. He should be playing in the AHL more this year and in the playoffs.. Give him a few games right now and send him back down. He's going to be a good player or at the least, GREAT trade bait.
