Gainey always used to say, sometimes a player needs to be called up as a reward for play in AHL, and for some it becomes a carrot stick to show them what they need to work on.

This might be a bit of both for Roy

Yes, I agree, I think that Roy still has room to develop in Laval, but this may make sense as a three or four game call up, to give Roy a taste of the NHL.

Two things.
We haven't made a roster move that would indicate he not going to continue his development in the AHL.
We also don't have a clue how Roy will measure up to NHL speed.

I think we know he's smart enough but a lot of his strengths will have to come to the fore to offset his weaknesses.
Playing against McDavid and Co. will be real eye opener for Roy.

Let us hope he eats his Wheaties today.

If he keeps his game simple and uses his tools (vision, anticipation and hand skills) he should be ok. He’s a smart player and he will quickly realize he won’t have the same time and space to execute as he does in the AHL.

I don't know if you can answer this but based on what you have seen, how does Roy's skating measure up to say....John Tavares?
Tavares has always been an average skater which is what Roy is considered to be. Just curious

who's gonna play with him lmaooooo we have 3 good forwards and they are on the same line

Sorry. Not happy at all. Take one of the best forwards off of a winning team and put him on a losing team who just lost to the Sharks? Why why why??? He’s barely played pro hockey. He won’t be ready and it won’t surprise me at all if he gets limited ice time. I really hate this. Build up your damn farm team first! Guaranteed everyone will bitch because of his ice time, his linemates, blah blah blah.
totally agree with you especially since he's gonna play with scrubs whats the point , oh well maybe he can show off some play driving skills

I love Roy always have but don't get the call up now. He is doing very well again in Laval and regained his confidence.

Where is he going to play? How much is he going to play?

He better not be here to play with Stephens and Pezzetta. What would be a Bergevin style move.

Edit: Long term I see Roy on a line with Dach if Dach stays at center, and a goal scorer like Zegras on the other side. Roy is a very very smart player, able to keep up offensively with the top guys but positionally sound and very aware, anticipates very well offensively and defensively. This is why he was with Bedard in the World Jr.

I'd bet they decided to bring him up now because Monahan is about to be traded & they want him to get some practice time with the team ahead of that... With the hope that he is able to handle top 9 deployment as a regular once Monahan goes.

That could mean being used more sparsely in his first few games (4th line deployment, perhaps with some PP2 time), which is fine as long as there's good clear communication btw him & coaches.

Armia's been playing well lately. I'm not surprised he gets moved up in Anderson's place.

Personally, I would rather see Ylonen. But I can't say that Armia doesn't deserve to move up.

And Roy and Armia were great together when Joel was in Laval.

The main takeaway from that is that Roy is playing with Monahan.
ok that makes sense.

I'm pumped to watch him play tonight. I'm hoping he gets more than 5 minutes of ice time.

curious move. He was supposed to cook in the AHL this year. Is it a reward for good play? He looked good last night. Is someone injured? Hughes was interviewed on RDS last week and said the kid had some growing up to do.
That was fast.
Easiest assumption is forthcoming trade or maybe they're fed up with the lack of offence. or both

narrator - anderson is injured

The team is so boring and unwatchable that some of the tops/most recent threads are the red ones - what movies you watch, what music you listen to, what book you read. This is in January... not August.

If Monahan is dealt and Newhook indeed returns to center it will be another Drouin scenario. One for one.
