Hard to envision a Norris trade that Ottawa can win. Goalscoring/finishing is a need, shutdown and PK ability are needs, grit/tenacity are needs, and Norris brings all of those things.

He is a million or so overpaid but I dont see much that can be done with that extra million or so that justifies moving him (presumably for another well-paid player)

Does Norris for Karlsson+ unironically work lol
Not at all. Karlsson is superfluous in every way 5-on-5 and Sanderson & Chabot are both capable of running a decent or good PP.

Maybe something like Connor Clifton + for Norris? Seems like Ottawa may need extra D
It's not that Clifton is anything special, it's just that we have a big problem with right-handed defensemen and we really need a top 4 RD right now. Jokiharju is the one who will probably leave the team first, not Clifton. At least Clifton plays physical and was decent on the third pair.

I think a guy like Samuelsson could be included in a deal given his contract and his injuries to at least mitigate some of the risk.
I think it's the Sabres' FANS that are more wanting a 2C than our GM. I think Adams is very much happy with Tage and Cozens as our 1/2 center....McLeod has been fantastic as our 3rd and Krebs is playing very well as our 4th.

If Buffalo makes a deal......I think it's going to be a package thing where Buffalo gets the best current player in the deal while the other team gets a haul of our prospect pipeline.
Well, it was reported that Adams is looking specifically for the top 6 F, so it's probably not just us who care about this.
Byram probably is not going anywhere now, he plays well in the first pair, why the hell do we need to trade him? We have no replacement, we don't even have a top 4 RD for the second pair, let alone Byram.

If they move Norris, I would think Pinto shifts up to 2C. Do Sens fans think that being the 2C would kickstart Pinto?
Pinto needs something to get him going, he's been awful this year.

With that said, I don't like the idea of trading Norris

"I was told over the weekend that among the conversations that the Sens have been in over the last week to 10 days in terms of shaking up that core - One of the names that's popped to the surface has been Josh Norris."
The passive voice wording is suggestive. In those conversations Seravalli talks about, you have to wonder how much of Josh Norris' name that has "popped to the surface" in talks with GMs is the Senators raising it themselves.

The injury risk is substantial, even if he is a pretty good player when healthy. You can convince yourself that it's not a bad contract when you have no choice and he's already on your club, but if he's not on your club then that's risk you don't need to assume for your team.

That's $7.95M/yr through 2030. He's played 50, 8, 66, and 56 games in his last four NHL seasons, with stat totals of 30, 3, 55, and 35 points. A good year is missing about 30 games. I don't know. I think he needs a productive year (65+ points) and 80 GP to raise his trade value enough for someone to pull the trigger.

its a catch 22 for sure because of his shoulder injuries but then at the same time being a center which ups his value. He is on pace for 54 points which isnt great considering his cap hit but at the same time he is on pace for 31 goals which would have put him tied for 36th in the league last year

very round about way of saying he obviously isnt returning a peak return but the pros that he has to me indicates his value isnt in the toilet. Now if he misses a few games that could change quickly

Any trade where they get rid of his money is a win, period

Golly I hope he has fully recovered from that vicious hit....

You mean the one from behind into the dasher that broke his nose and left a nasty gash - which I’m sure you’d have no problem with if it happened to Quinn.
Yeah, he’ll be ok. Sorry the rules applied.

I hope not. Pinto can play for stretches at 2C and a alright, but he's better suited to 3C long term.

At the same time, I have no trust in that shoulder and would love a 2C upgrade....but we certainly don't have the pieces to make it happen. Not to mention no one is going to give us anything substantial for Norris with that shoulder still being a question mark.

Honestly, at this point, the only core kids I'd want to hold onto would be Timmy and Sanderson. Anyone else on the NHL roster could be had for a fair price.

I'm not sure I see a scenario where trading Norris makes the team better. Unless you think you're getting a top six forward back, I can't imagine it improves them. The center right behind him, Pinto, hasn't been having a good year.

Sorry for another Sens thread, but this one actually has an insider source, and it's about a notable player.

Norris is a center that has missed a lot of time with shoulder injuries, but that looks to possibly be behind now. He is 25yrs old and currently on pace for 33 goals and 57 points. He makes 7.950 for 5 more years after this one, and is known for his shot and responsible defensive play.
Does Norris have value with that contract? IMO the Sens would need to take back bad contracts and (or) eat a lot of his salary. And five years of retention seems too long.

I can't see Norris being attractive, at all, at that cap hit. Anything coming back to OTT would be similarly overpriced, prone to injury, old, or have a talent deficit. Salary cap matters.

BTW is Seravelli right very often?
