Head Coach Jacques Martin has confirmed that Norris is done for the season after undergoing shoulder surgery.
Martin did not comment on which shoulder it was. Previously, Norris has already gone through 2 surgeries on his left shoulder which caused him to miss significant time

Norris is signed through 2030 at 8mil per season.

This is why i always applaud when young player get their bag and sign long term vs bridge deals. Teams always want to sign their young studs to long term contract in hopes of getting a bargain in the future, I say let them and let the franchise take the risk financially.

Hopefully Norris has a full recovery and reaches his potential but if not and he comes back and is never the same, at least he has his contract.

All the best to Josh to a healthy recovery.

It’s clearly the same shoulder. You can tell from the video of the injury. I called this in the thread a few weeks ago about proposing to trade him to Philly. Shoulders are complex joints and are difficult, if not impossible, to fully repair. He will never be the same player he was. Even if he is repaired physically the fear of reinjury changes you.

The first 2 surgeries were “Bankart” Repairs.

This one would be a reconstruction
Tough scene for him

Bad news. While I think his 40 goal season was a bit of an unrepeatable feat, healthy or not…he was at the very least going to be a top six mainstay for years. Hopefully he can recover in due time and at least be a solid player.

I do think the Sens are well insulated at center with Pinto coming back and Greig developing so well (if they want to keep him at center).

16 million so far for 58 games, not bad.

He has never scored 40 goals.

The Sens are probably hoping for that at this point.

If he “recovers” bit isn’t the same player and remains a 40-50pt guy that cap hit will be a big pain on the cap
I think worst case scenario would be he recovers enough to play out his contract as a shell of his former self. Knowing the type of guy Norris is, that would crush him too. He's an emotional guy that I think was letting the injury get in his head. I think he's cooked now and it's going to be an anchor on the team. Although, it's not that sad for Norris as Dorion gifted him ~56 million.

Very unfortunate for Norris, as his career is likely in jeopardy now.

As OP said though, can never fault a player for guaranteeing their financial position with a big contract. Regardless of what happens, Norris is set for life.

I fell down like ten years ago and hurt my shoulder and it was never the same.
I'm not a professional athlete, but shoulders are weird.

Agreed, and obviously one of the more vital joints for this or just about any sport. It's easy to see how shoulder problems can derail a career. I suspect they are likely the quiet cause of many more downfalls than we actually hear about.
