Player Discussion Josh Norris (C) 6’-1” - Part 3

6 goals, 11 points, +5 in his last 15 games. That's a 33 goal, 60pt/82 game pace.

Obviously that's a short span, but Norris hasn't completely lost it. I think that's the player he ends up being over the next 5-6 years, so there's no reason at all to dump him. In a hockey trade? Okay. But just trying to get out of the contract? No thanks.

York adds almost nothing to the show. Where F3 goes on a dump in, how different PKs work, that's what he's good for. He should be a guest for 15 min once a week.

That's what I like about him. When he shows off his expertise. I like getting it from a pros perspective who's been there rather than a reporter like Wallace.

I also prefer Yorkie to someone like bobby who I thought didn't do as good a job. I do like Methot, but he's clearly busier.

I'm not sure who would be a better option? Never liked whitey on the radio.

Yorkie would be second to Methot as my favourite Ottawa NHLer doing media.

Unless we could get someone like Andre Roy lol that guys hilarious.

There aren't many options for personalities who played on the team before. Plus, he's decent at story time when talking about the 1998-2003 sens.

Yorkie is always very pro sens in that he will find a reason for why they decide anything even during the DJ Smith era. I never liked that it is okay to have a different opinion sometimes and to form his own conclusions. I think now with his brother in ownership its even worse

Shaun van Allen or Radek Bonk might be interesting. Both with some coaching experience and insight, in addition to their Senator's resume.

He isn't going anywhere
Bruce confirmed 4 teams said sens are shopping him for a big move.

Norris will be moved it’s just a matter if it’s tomorrow or more likey the offseason.

I am super opposed to doing something like that right now with how central he is to the room and the team is currently in a playoff spot. Giving me Kyle Turris for Duchene vibes.

In the summer the team will have time to stomach that kind of move and Norris can hopefully raise his value a bit in a playoff run or to close out the season in big games

Since when did this start carrying weight?

If this team makes the playoffs and Norris plays well enough in the postseason to raise his stock, we’re not trading him.

If we miss, anything is possible on the roster. Norris, Batherson, Chabot, etc will be shopped.

I like Yorkie...and I liked simmer. They're great easy to listen to.

Wallace is more whiny and irritable. He complains about everything while Yorkie just laughs it off.
I thought Yak was referring to Locked on Senators podcast, not CIH. I could be wrong however. As for Simmer, he's passed away. I personally like salty Wally but to each his own.

I agree, but he is another guy that has come off a couple of surgeries & is trying to get back into it which takes time sometimes more than a season. I expect that if he does stay healthy that he could have a come back yr next yr, he has all the tools to do it.

He probably is more valuable to the coaches to play centre than wing, but I'm not against trying it if it protects his shoulder. Speaking from experience, I feel for these guys when they get older with all these injuries arthritis is going to be painful for them, no wonder so many get hooked on pain killers. Bad backs, bad knees, bad wrists, bad shoulders ... ouch.
It doesn't seem to have affected Tarasenko who also had 3 shoulder surgeries so it's not necessarily a given that it will affect Norris. Norris does play a more physical game than Tank so I guess that could be a factor.

Really? 2nd in hits on the team, usually playing against opponent's top line. Also plays with a bit of an edge. I guess I like him more than many on this board.
For 8 mill he needs to be better

For those posters saying that Norris is a big piece in the locker room....I find that hard to believe with how much time he has missed

I don’t think time missed means he’s not a huge piece.

He’s Brady’s best friend, been playing with Batherson since the Belleville days, close with Timmy/Pinto/Chabot. Even Cousins said on CIH Norris was the person he was closest to. He seems to be liked by everyone.

This core has been together awhile, moving any of them is going to be somewhat disruptive. Doesn’t mean you can’t do it obviously, but Norris being injured doesn’t really negate his importance in the room.

They have also gone long stretches without him in the locker room. They will be fine cause they are used to it

It’s not really the same. Not like Norris disappeared off the face of the planet when he was hurt, he was still living here.

They’ll be fine because they know this is a business. But I think in particular if it were to happen tomorrow as opposed to the off-season it would be upsetting. I don’t know Norris but even as a fan after watching him for all these years it would suck to not have him here for our first playoffs with this core if we get in. I’m sure they feel the same way.

I was wondering the same thing & how it will affect the team not just for the remainder of this yr, but this summer & how the other Americans on the team are feeling especially Brady. A lot can change over the course of yrs remaining on his contract, but the chances of him or them resigning IMO have reduced dramatically now. And again just an opinion, but it wouldn't surprise me if this also changes things for Sanderson, Pinto & Kleven. Is Gilbert a potential Kleven replacement?

Winning cures everything.

If they spiral in the standings this year it’s not gonna be good and could have further consequences but otherwise I think they’ll be fine. Personal feelings aside, if Cozens makes us a better team, they will grow to understand it.

This happens to every team at some point or another - your initial core never quite ends up being the final version.

But I loved Norris’ game. I think he has a lot more potential still and he seems like a great person. I hope he can help get things turned around in Buffalo and stay healthy, and hopefully Cozens helps us sort out our forward lines, which have struggled to find chemistry this season.

Good luck in Buffalo Josh.

Never had an issue with the way you play, dude always played hard on our own zone and had a wicked shot. He may have been an ass playmaker, but he played defensive minutes while showing potential to be a perennial 30g scorer.

Wish him all the health but hope he has horrible games against us.

His goal in Boston with 12 seconds to go was the best moment of the season imo.

Another big one late in the game against Detroit to win it, at a time we really needed it.

He had a knack for timely goals, I actually really wanted to see him in the playoffs.

Bummed to see him go but the writing was on the wall, if not now then eventually. Hope he crushes it in Buffalo.
