Josh Gorges is _____

Josh Gorges is a solid 2nd pairing guy at a good salary for a 2nd pairing defender, but we keep pretending that he's a top pairing guy and are shocked that he isn't.

Who's pretending that he is a top pairing guy?

He's playing on the "top pair" because he's a better fit as a partner for Subban than Markov.

If you ask who the two "top pairing" guys on the Habs are it's Subban and Markov. Gorges and Emelin are #3-4 or #4-3

But you gotta admit that Gorges has been the same for about a while now. He's not a lazy guy so something's just wrong with him. He looks slower and weaker and this from a guy that have defended Gorges a LOT on this board.

I don't find him any slower and weaker, I think it's people's perspective that affect their opinions.

I remember the same for Desharnais, since he signed his contract all of a sudden everybody rags on him and we should give him away.

He's awful. He doesn't fit in the system anymore. Need to trade him to a trap team.

why not do,

Markov - Subban
Gorges - Tinordi
Bouillon/Murray/Drewiske - Diaz

When Emelin is back,

Tinordi/Gorges - Subban
Markov - Emelin
Diaz - Murray/Beaulieu/Gorges/Tinordi

he has zero offensive skillz , weak first pass , no creativity , not physical , can't fight but fans loves him because he's a "warrior " .

I remember when he jumped in front of a shot with his head first like a jackass everybody was saying how much we need more player liker him but reality it's that it was such a dumb move , Habs had already 2 dman injuried ( markov and somebody else) , why would someone try to block a shot when there is ZERO traffic in front of the net ?

I still remember when people wanted him to be captain! He's nothing more than a glorified bottom 6 plumber. It was nice to have him when people recognized his true value but for some odd reason he got extremely overrated. Trade him already, his interview on TV is also very annoying, give up the fake leadership role already!

He's solid and reliable, good team player, warrior, good shot-blocker, fairly compensated for what he brings, and a decent #3 type overall. He can play 22 minutes a night and should be on the team's top PK unit, while having an "A" stitched on the front of his jersey.

He's not physical, not aggressive, has a terrible terrible shot which he should never ever think of using, he should never pinch on the point, he isn't quick or strong so he has to rely on his instincts and positioning and not forget that that's what he's relying on.

I think he's a good partner for Subban or Markov, either way. He seems to be hurt atm. I don't think he's going to look as good in a swarm style defense with less backcheck help as he does in a more structured and conservative system.

I like Gorges.

Good analysis, I very much agree. And I like Gorges as well.

Give the guy some slack ffs. He has always been a very serviceable dman for us and is a great leader. He is not playing the greatest hockey of his career but so what, most players hit a wall at some point.

An overachieving and overpaid warrior. He's similar to Prust for me. Needs to be at a very high level strenght and conditioning wise to match his compete level or else he's nearly useless. I'll give him a bit of a break because he doesn't seem healthy right now.

Also, is it Subban that is an uber skater (he kinda is of course) or are Georges and Markov reaaaaly slow right now?

He is a good number 5-6 d nothing more nothing less. I expect more from him on offence but its okay its not really his job

is a top 4 complementary D-man being asked to support a #1 d-man on a first pairing.

I find what blind gaurdian brought up about the swarm system quite interesting. I think I might agree with that point.

I think he's a pretty bad player tbh. People still judge defense in the traditional sense, where they think defense is when you're pinned in your own zone, Gorges is routinely playing defense because he lacks puck moving ability and has zero offensive game. When PK Subban's not carrying Gorges he looks like what he really is, a borderline 4/5 dman at best.

I'm convinced PK can carry Boullion as well. Best Dman in the league in my opinion.

Josh Gorges is where offensive chances go to die.

Seriously, I wish they wouldn't give him the puck in the offensive zone. It's like he's programmed to instantly fade to the far boards at the blueline and take a wrist shot at the nearest shin pad.
