Joseph freaking Woll

He did what he could but when the shots and zone time are 2 or 3 to 1 against.. something is gonna give.

The Leafs went 3 shifts at a time in their own zone at some points this game.

Anyone laying this at his feet is a joke.

He's allowed 10 goals in 2 home games to finish a series.

He's allowed 23 goals in 6.5 games the entire series.

The volume of that speaks for itself. It's not all his fault, but enough of it is his fault.

1B goalie at best. Leafs have failed to draft a true elite goalie for many many years now. Stolarz is good, but the Stolarz/Woll tandem gives me Bernier/Reimer vibes. Leafs need a Bobrovsky/Sorokin/Vasy calibre tendy.

Great goalies step up and make the big saves. He stepped down and let in a back breaker of a 4th goal and took the team right out of it. You just cannot let that in if you are going to be trusted as an NHL goalie. You can't. That killed any hope.

He allowed multiple back breakers this series. He almost choked away Game 1. He shrunk in the moment and was a momentum killer. Team didn't get any confidence in front of him. Launched multiple grenades at his defensemen.

It says more about the fans who say this sort of garbage about goalie after goalie after goalie. Like there is some mythical perfect goalie who can stop a team that was ahead 21-0 in shot attempts at one point in the first period.

Florida dominated this team completely in two of the last three games. The only game they won was a shutout by Woll. But yeah, it was his fault they lost.

If a goalie allows goals at a rate of the defensive environment around him, there's literally no reason he can't be any other goalie in the sport.

Your defense of Woll literally is saying he could just as well be Bernier, Reimer, Samsonov, or Campbell. You have no idea what you are saying.

Yeah sure, add another one onto the pile and start tearing into the next one, whatever.

Every Leaf goalie that received heavy criticism and played to the level of the environment left did not go on to do anything special in the sport. It's a team problem and a goalie problem. To not blame a subpar goalie who sunk the season? Why, to be PC? Woll was awful. 23 goals against in 6.5 games.

Fun fact:

Joseph Woll and Stuart Skinner basically have the same save percentage this playoffs (886 for Woll and 884 for Skinner)

He really reminds me of Reimer, his movement, poor rebound control. I think he can play in the NHL, but I don't see anything special there.

The team played like crap in front of him for 3/4 losses

But I have less faith in him than I did at the start of the playoffs

I think about that godly start in Game 3 on the road, all hands on deck by the team in front of him, shock and awe offense vs a bewildered Florida.

And how they were rewarded with going down 4-3... and I think that effort by Woll would have impacted the team's trust in their goalie.

He played really well in spurts and gave up untimely soft goals. That screams backup to me.

I love Woll. I was rooting for Woll. And maybe he can turn it around and become something, but as a goalie myself and a staunch goalie apologist, he's not him. Is he an NHL goalie? Yes. Is he a starter? No. He's not. He is just a guy.

You're right, his defense did him no favours. They sucked. But he did himself no favours as well. You absolutely have to hold the post on the 4th goal. Its like day two stuff learning to play goal. Hug your post. Hug your post. He didn't and let in a short side muffin. You can't be the guy and let that in. You can't.

Don't get me wrong, I would have preferred Stolarz was in all series and we were in the conference finals right now. I'm just saying when a team gets completely caved in on every measure we have.. blaming the goalie is just the most leafs fan thing to do in the world.

Woll needed to be better and missed a big opportunity but he’s also just getting himself settled in the league. He’s shown enough promise in a short career that he gets some time to develop into.

He’ll Stolie has been a career backup and he’s in his 30’s now not showing. He might be able to be a starter?

Woll waspart of the reason for the series loss but he shouldn’t be thrown to the wolves.

Sure and anyone saying its 100% on him, they're full of it. You win and lose as a team. The core 4 (outside of Nylander) didn't step up. Reilly didn't step up. But you need your goalie to be the guy and he wasn't tonight and he wasn't in game 5. He was really inconsistent across the series.

Maybe he can figure it out, but in this market, its gonna be awfully hard to come back from that.

Woll is the reason the Leafs lost this series. This is 100% on him.

No, I think it’s a doom spiral by a goalie who wasn’t ready to play and a team whose confidence eroded over time. Leafs best chance to win was a knockout blow early but when it went to extra rounds the champions had a better shot at outlasting Toronto.

At the other end, the top end players were not ready to compete on a consistent basis. No way the “big” guns could outscore the Woll deficit.
