Joseph freaking Woll

Woll will do us just fine until Stolarz can be back next round. He's got this. A lot of those goals last night were fluky or seeing eye pucks.

He knows his mission and with every game he will get a lot better. Best backup of the remaining teams, if anybody else had their #1 go down they'd be fuc*Ed.

GO LEAFS GO
Yes I'm not familiar with all the goalies in the NHL so I've been reluctant to shout it out loud or anything, but we maybe have the best #2 in the NHL, and he's better than some #1's. I read just a few posts during the game last night and it was a joke, everything from Woll's an asshole to Woll's an AHL goalie, just ridiculous.

Seems it's been like this for ages, one bad game and the goalie gets scapegoated. And he wasn't that bad anyway, like you said most of the goals were fluky ... I'm sure the team has confidence in him, and with good reason. GLG!!

All things considered it's nice our backup is matching Florida's starter, or even out playing him.

Florida is a tough team though.

I don't know about playing like a "clear backup" but you're right in suggesting he wasn't playing up to his regular season standard. Even so, given that league average for goalies this season is around .900, we can say that he's been playing like an average goalie, not playing like a "clear backup" as you suggest. That's just nonsense.

Who would you rather have in net, the goalie who this past season had a record of 21-8-3 with a GAA of 2.14 and a SV% .926 or the real backup Woll with a record of 27-14-1 with a GAA of 2.73 and SV% .909? Stolarz still has a 2.19 GAA and .901 SV% compared to real backup Woll 3.99 GAA and .869 SV%.

So tell me, who is the clear backup in reality who is playing like a clear backup? Woll was slightly above average this season and has been well below average in the playoffs. I contend it will be difficult to win this series if he continues his penchant of allowing soft goals, having trouble tracking pucks, and generally looking shaky and unbalanced in the crease.

They are both playing like backups, that's my point.

Woll has some great playoff numbers, I don't think he will stay at .869% and I don't think Stolarz will stay at .901%.

I'm not a big Woll fan. He's overemotional. Bad trait for a goalie.

That being said...I know he has the ability to close out this series. He just needs to get out of his own way. He looked terrible the entire game last night. He cost us that game after we came out flying.

We would have lost game 2 if he was average, and he wasn't terrible in the last one either.
I think he was okay in game 2. But, game 3 he was not even close to being average IMO. He was absolute dog shit. Especially on that 4th goal. My god, that was so bad, My Wednesday night beer league goalie teammate could have saved that.

Game 4 will be his best game of the series, just watch.
I don’t know about that man. I really hope you’re right. But, I just don’t see it happening.

This is not the Joseph Woll of last year. In fact, the way he’s been playing, he is about as far away from that form as he can possibly be right now ATM.

I'm hoping Woll has a great game 4 and gets the win, but if he doesn't then what? Go to Murray for game 5? Sucks that Stolarz is down and the Leafs are back to having goalie issues in the playoffs in part thanks to that dirty POS Bennett.

I know you can't be critical of the goaltending here because if you do certain members of this board lose their mind because how dare anybody but critical of goaltending.

Here are some facts.

#1 The Leafs are up 2-1.

#2 Joseph Woll has a 3.99 GAA it should be higher because he only played about half the first game.

#2 he has an 869 save%

Now yes he did show flashes of "Brick Woll." in game 2 but overall he's been HORRENDOUS.

An 869 save% is not a defense problem that is NEVER a defense problem, 869 is a goaltending issue, anything below 900 is a goaltending.

Even if he were 880, which is still borderline unplayable they'd be up 3-0 right now.

HE cost them game 3.

Joseph Woll can be a good goaltender we've seen it.

He's got to be that guy tomorrow.

He NEEDS to be Brick Woll, stop letting in goals on the first 5-10 shots.

Pulling for a big game from the kid tonight.

I’ve had this all year premonition that Matt Murray helps in a deep run this year, not trying to manifest it. Come on kid.

One and a half bad games is concerning, but some of the stuff that people are writing about how often he gives up bad goals is crazy. He was absolute dynamite in two playoff series and we spent at least half this season thinking this guy should have the net over Stolarz.

He simply must be better, no arguments about his performance in this series, but he's shown that he can dial it in, he's shown that he's got that fight. Now go out there and do it!

I think he was okay in game 2. But, game 3 he was not even close to being average IMO. He was absolute dog shit. Especially on that 4th goal. My god, that was so bad, My Wednesday night beer league goalie teammate could have saved that.
Goal 4 was the only really bad one IMO. He could have played better, but he sure isn't the only player we could say that about. Florida outchanced us the last two games, the reason we didn't lost both is because Woll outplayed Bobrovsky so dumping on him makes no sense to me whatsoever. What if the rest of the team gets their shit together, and we win a game without relying on our goalie outplaying theirs for a change, how would that be?

I don’t know about that man. I really hope you’re right. But, I just don’t see it happening.

This is not the Joseph Woll of last year. In fact, the way he’s been playing, he is about as far away from that form as he can possibly be right now ATM.
Did you miss game 2 or what? He's had his ups and downs this season just like every player we have (except Tanev maybe) so maybe he'll be terrible tonight, but maybe he'll be great, we'll just have to wait and see.

They are both playing like backups, that's my point.

Woll has some great playoff numbers, I don't think he will stay at .869% and I don't think Stolarz will stay at .901%.
Just to clarify, Woll is not currently at .869%. That means he's making less than 1% of saves. The percentage of shots saved by him is 86.9%.

Woll could definitely be better but Leafs fans doing the constant hero to zero on goalies is hilarious.

With all the deflections and screens the goalies have to fight though in this series it has been rough on both sides. Rielly's tip in was perfect last game. He should try that on the other team.

I wish Woll could have got out of his head for game 3.

He played great in game 4. Likely the series turning point.
