This guy played beautifully for the Leafs last year. Time to start pushing him into the conversation.

Does "pushing him into the conversation" imply being an organizational #3? A backup or 1B? He might be ready for the former by next season (or sooner than that). Yes, the waivers concern comes into play if that happens.
"When healthy" is an important distinction to make. He hasn't played more than Kallgren at the NHL level, and I believe the two goalies are currently even for playing time with the Marlies. While there's obviously plenty more left of this NHL season, I'm currently not straying from wanting to run back the Murray-Samsonov tandem going into next season. He is already the #3 goalie for us (when healthy). An above-average one at that. Woll is better than Kallgren and anyone else on the depth chart.
It is a matter of whether he is a backup or 1B. I think he can be at least a really good backup, but he has tandem starter upside easily... And if we are able to get long term results out of Murray or Samsonov, that is all we will need anyways.
I love the Marlies.

If we can screw around giving Sammy chances, back to back, rest and any other combo to give him every chance then Woll deserves the same opportunity. Give waivers to Sammy. If Murray goes down we are done anyways.Does "pushing him into the conversation" imply being an organizational #3? A backup or 1B? Samsonov is RFAHave to figure the long term plan was for Samsonov to come in, play well, get a bigger contract somewhere else and leave via free agency. Murray still under contract, and Woll moves up to be the official backup. He and Murray battle it out, and perhaps Woll evolves into the next starter and we find a cheap but experienced backup.
Samsonov's Leaf numbers aren't exactly worlds apart from those posted by Murray at this point. Woll also has significantly less experience in comparison to Samsonov while only being a year younger. I'm thrilled to see Woll thriving in the AHL right now, but...If we can screw around giving Sammy chances, back to back, rest and any other combo to give him every chance then Woll deserves the same opportunity. Right, but Sammy looks like a fish out of water, has no lateral movement. Last game everyone watched the 5 hole because his legs are so weak he cannot close up. It is not an injury or he would not play 2 games and be on ltir.Samsonov's Leaf numbers aren't exactly worlds apart from those posted by Murray at this point. Don't think I knew that. Either way, we have no commitment to him long term. Cost us nothing to get him, cost us nothing to let him go. My comment stands.Samsonov is RFA
