Jordan called up and is (not) Weally playing tomorrow

I love Darryl, but sometimes he is infuriating. What is the point of calling up Weal just to have him sit a meaningless game?

Assuming it wasn't an equipment issue, I don't get why they won't either, but at least the kid gets a few days of NHL salary which will make for a nice chunk of change, so a roundabout performance bonus?

They did the same to Forbort too, called him up and didn't he sit like eight games before being sent down.

Just wow... meaningless game and Sutter still finds a way to **** it up.

Hopefully Weal is sick... or there's some sort of explanation... wouldn't be surprised either way.

Hardly "gutted" to spend the weekend in LA with the big club. Disappointed, I'm sure, but there's worse things in life than making a pro-rated share of his NHL contract on a beautiful day in Southern California.

Exactly, but still could have played Weal over Andreoff.

Andreoff deserved to play, but with nothing on the line, guys like Lewis, Williams, Stoll, etc. all could have been excluded to allow Weal entrance. Obviously there is a bigger back story, and I doubt it's something nefarious on the part of Sutter.

This is one of my biggest problems with Coach. His "Always Play The Vet" nonsense is super frustrating. We could have given a start to Weal in favor of AndyA if we had to. There are other players too who could have been given a game off so that we could have gotten a look at Weal. Oh well, I am not saying that it was critical or any really big deal but it is frustrating to see sometimes.

various "theories" on twitter but def not a jersey-related issue and not heard anyone say sick either. some talk of issue between sutter and management and weal caught in crossfire. no one seems to know the reason. but it is strange they'd call him up and sit him. esp in a game with no stakes, more or less.

Almost all coaches have a thing for vets. Look at Craig Adams and Tanner Glass.

It's because of their wisdom and number of games played that makes the coaches trust in them more, no matter how bad they are.

I'm surprised by these comments. Of course Sutter wouldn't play Weal. He understands that this may be the last game that this group plays together. Just go look at the post game interviews. All of the players understand that there will be moves in the offseason and a lot of the vets are going to move on. Weal will get plenty of chances to play in the NHL. Let this group have its last moment together.

if that's the case why was Richards scratched in favor of Andreoff.

true that. richards might not see another game.

also what was the management plan?

Gives him a day or two of a NHL pay cheque.

You got it.... Kings have been doing that for years. Do well in the AHL and get one or nice big checks. One game in the NHL is meaningless from a development standpoint.

The last game is for the players not the prospects.

lombardi spoke on why weal didn't play ... needs "translator"

(on why Jordan Weal didn’t play in the final game…)

LOMBARDI: ''Well, we were going to play Andreoff, then we had a guy or two knocked up, so we wanted to make sure… On the one hand, you’d like to see him play, on the other hand, you still have to have the motivation to try and win.’’

is he saying they would not have won if weal played? :dunno:
