Value of: Jordan Binnington

I was wondering what his value looks like across the league his value as a big game goalie seems to be proven once again but his regular season stats from the outside seem mediocre.

Currently Binnington has played 39 games with a 15-19-4 record with a 2.89 GAA and a .897 SV%, He also has a significant contract.

Jordan Binnington is signed to a 6 year, $36,000,000 contract with a cap hit of $6,000,000 per season, currently playing for the St. Louis Blues. His contract was signed on March 11, 2021, and expires at the end of the 2026-27 season, when Binnington will be 33 years old (copied off of Puckpedia).

So 3 years left at 6 million a year, so what do you think his value is especially considering his stellar performance in one of the biggest games this decade?

A starting goalies value is in their consistency. 1 good game doesn't change his value much from what it was before.

Although StL would prefer a bluechip instead of more picks, just dont see him returning that.

I mean yeah, this is 'the' time for St. Louis to unload him & they'll probably get a nice return from some GM who may or may not already be on the hot seat ... I just don't think it will age well for whoever gets him. If he goes back to St Louis & goes back to his, minus the 4 Nations, form...that value will tank pretty quickly. If he stays strong up to the trade deadline & shows a bit of consistency ... who knows. Personally I wouldn't bet the farm/my job on him but there's also probably a very good reason that I'm not a GM somewhere.

A starting goalies value is in their consistency. 1 good game doesn't change his value much from what it was before.

How many starting goalies would you say are truly consistent? Last year Bob and Swayman were among the league stat leaders with Binnington, this year they're all average or worse. I could go on and on, but there are very few goalies I'd say are consistent year in and year out.

It seems that goalie stats are heavily influenced by the team in front of them. As a big Binnington fan, I can say that when the team is playing well, I have full confidence in him. He's won a lot more games for us than he's cost us, despite what the "numbers" might say.

One thing you can always count on with Binnington is he plays well when it matters, and I think that's why you'll find Blues fans appreciate him, even when the rest of the league says he's garbage. Blues fans know who he is, and he proved it again.

seems the correct time for the blues to be shopping Jordan, his value will not likely get any higher...and Hofer will need more starts next year and beyond.

he is a perfect target for a contender to acquire...somehow I figure Armstrong and Stan Bowman have already discussed a trade.

I don't think he will get as much because the goalie market this summer is actually looking to be fairly flush, and last summer it was not, so teh Devils wanted to get a deal done before he could be traded elsewhere.

With Hill, Lindgren and Vejmelka set to be UFAs, I think teams are going to want to try and sign them first before giving up assets for Binnington, which means waiting until after July 1, and then the 2026 draft is supposed to be deeper, so teams will value those picks higher too.

To me, it makes a lot more sense to use those assets and cap space on improving the team in front of them and finding a goalie who is good enough but cheap, rather than overpaying for a goalie who used to be good and then not having the depth to give them the best chance to succeed.

I would agree. I can see why teams might give up more for a cost controlled prospect like Askarov, but when you've got guys like Thompson, Lankinen and Blackwood going from backups to All-stars, why overpay for a veteran?
