Value of: Jordan Binnington to Edmonton

It's a one year $2.6m cap contract.

Just play Hofer and Ellis and put Skinner on waivers.

You also won't be able to put Ellis in the AHL without waivers anymore. He's your backup unless you want to risk waiving him (in a scenario where Binnington is gone).

Fair enough. Blues fans - even those who don't entirely like Binnington's issues like me - will ask for the moon for a trade, especially one sending Skinner to us, and rightfully so.

No need for Binnington next season when there's Gibson. Just send Stuart Skinner+
Both Gibson and Binnington will cost assets that Edmonton doesn't have. They'll have to look at guys like Jarry, Grubauer, Merzlikins, Mrazek, Tarasov, Fedotov, Nedeljkovic, Brossoit, Ingram, Silovs and decide if their pro scouts think one of them has what it takes to be a 1A in Edmonton (with Pickard as 1B). They could also look at UFAs and dump Skinner somewhere.

Or they can just keep this goaltending duo and cruise to another 100+ pt season despite them.
Also, why are you so sure the Oilers dont have the assets?

Gibson is an overpriced disgruntled backup goalie in Anaheim. I dont think it will require an arm and a leg to acquire him unless ANA is retaining on his contract.

Agree that Blues trading Binnington doesnt make much sense.

Will there? Year after year Edmonton keeps bringing back the garbage in net. I see no reason why that’ll change now
Oilera will be in a cap crunch again next year and will likely be out of contention for a highly paid starting goalie. They will likely stick with Skinner + Pickard until trade deadline, March 2026.

Says who? When healthy he was getting the starter's role starts (granted it was more shared 1A duties). The only rumor that he's disgrunted was the goof who claimed Gibson told him he'd never play in Anaheim again...three years ago. Right now he's the starter but probably can see that Dostal's the future. They're currently sharing the goaltending duties more or less 50/50 which gives them both plenty of work & plenty of rest. If he stays it's at least a couple more years of sharing the games & slowly transitioning to Dostal being the starter (at least through the end of his contract). They're one of the better goaltending duos in the league with a very reasonable combined salary (Dostal is getting a new contract this summer but still...). The team is looking to be ready to finally be competitive again. After slogging through all those putrid years, he may become quite disgruntled if he's traded right as things are looking up.

PV has said he listened to offers for him but wasn't going to budge off of his price. Really nothing has changed to make him think otherwise (& if it's Edmonton calling the price probably went up as they 'really' need an upgrade in net)

None of these guys are upgrades on Skinner and most of them range from worse to much worse or are career backups and third stringers. Some of them make double what Skinner does. There's no solutions there.

This is a very salty reply!

Agreed. Change for change's sake is poor use of assets. Oilers need an upgrade for sure.

Gibson is a more likely target for Edmonton.

We all know there will be change between the pipes for the Oilers

Gibson only makes sense with a lot of retention.

He was a fun target 3yrs ago. Now he just looks like he's part of the reason ANA is in year 5 of a rebuild

Don't @ me on the timeline of the rebuild. It's been a while and it's irrelevant to my point

Fun statement for a team out in the 1st round compared to the one up 3-1 in the 2nd round.

Try harder. Basement tier ragebait
Oilers riding McDrai coat tails

Holloway Thomas Snuggerrud
Buchnevich Schenn Kyrou

Fowler Parayko
Broberg

Binner
Hofer

Monty

Solid core, solid coaching, solid management moving forward.

Love their prospect pool too.

A team that has dealt a lot of picks to maintain Stanley Cup contender status gives their fans what they want right now.

Later? Harder to build a team with home grown young propsects. True. I know what I'd rather my team do right now.

Western Conference Finals.

You clearly aren't watching the Oilers these playoffs. Secondary scoring, rolling all four lines...

Team depth is eating their opponents alive.

There is a term in hockey called score effects.

There should also be one called player effects.

Enjoy it while you can, the nhl perch doesn’t last long.

Show me all the points from McDrai relative to the rest of the roster this series.

I won't hold my breath on your capabilities to do that as it won't fit the narrative, so checkmate I guess?

Again, try harder

This same core had awful metrics and had to rely on Hellebuyck having a historically terrible series to even make it past game 5, cool... Hope Holloway and Snuggerud peak this season.
