NHL Draft hopefuls Jonny Tychonick and Jacob Bernard-Docker are...



The one thing scouts seem to agree on? The duo will perfectly complement each other during their college careers, which will begin this fall in Grand Forks.

Tychonick, 6-0, 177 pounds, and Bernard-Docker, 6-0, 187, have been playing together on various teams since they were 10 years old.

Because of their complementary styles, they’ve often been paired together.
“Jacob and I have a great relationship,” Tychonick said. “We always seem to be partners. Maybe, one day, down the road, we will again at UND.”

Bernard-Docker added: “It should be a lot of fun. We grew up being D-partners. It should be a really fun year. I’m already looking forward to it.”
But first is the draft.

They panned to the sens table as the pick was made and you could see a lady a shuffling through a stack of names.

Can't even imagine we have scouts to watch those leagues any significant amount of time.

Of course we do, it's in the exact same territory as the WHL.

Really happy with this pick. Posted this in Tychonick's prospect thread before the draft:

He really finished the year really strong. Had 39 points in his last 28 games (regular season and playoffs).

His numbers aren't as good as Fabbro's in his draft year, but he didn't get to play with the same kind of offensive talent as Fabbro. The Vees best forward this year had 67 points, while Fabbro played with Scott Conoway and Tyson Jost, who ranked #1 and #3 in league scoring with 116 points and 104 points respectively.

Really like his skating, puckmoving and IQ. Definitely see top 4 potential in him. Could be a good dark horse pick in the late 1st/early 2nd.

Who knows how well they turn out... But kudos to PD for the trade down. He essentially got the same caliber player with the extra pick. Well done there. Draft and develop, that should be our strategy.

Sort of a neat theory. Looks like PD is going after guys that will fit well with each other.

@starling: Of course they have scouts watching these leagues. Just because they’re second tier doesn’t mean there isn’t talent there. Especially when you look at Makar, Jost and Fabbro who were all high picks out of these leagues, you would be at a considerable disadvantage as an organization to not have people there. It’s becoming more and more common for players to avoid CHL and play in tier 2 to go the college route because of career flexibility. So just because they’re there it isn’t necessarily because they aren’t good enough for the CHL.

It's weird how we suck at drafting in the 1st round but are good at the 2nd round and beyond.
