Assuming Tkachuk goes on LTIR

To :panthers
D Seth Jones ($2M retained, $7.5M cap hit going forward)

To :hawks
RW Jack Devine
G Kirill Gerasimyuk
Panthers 2026 1st round pick

Hawks I have imagine have seen plenty of Devine watching Thompson and can sign both after season. Gerasimyuk gives Hawks long-term potential prospect to develop in Russia in net (G is not strength of Hawks system with Gajan and Commesso struggling). Get a 2026 1st

Panthers get Jones with $2M retained and at $7.5M thru next 5 years is very cost appropriate replacement for Ekblad at RD
If Samoskevich isn't on the table, we're not trading with Florida

(I'd also like to snipe the rights to Shuravin if possible)

That’s fair but I don’t think being a part of the jones trade is the best way to maximize value here. If they’re concerned at all about his development swap him for a forwards. I guess that’s probably what you’re trying to do here with Ritchie but I’d think you can get a bit higher up the totem pole
I'm not even like a massive Ritchie fan either. But for forward prospects that are on possible spots he could go to, that actually might move? Yeah I like him. Also I really like Zellers. I don't think the deal is that crazy, but maybe I'm the crazy one.

I wonder if the Rangers could be an option. They have a lot of deadline space to take him on, enough space in the offseason to use on him, and could have a need for a "steady" presence behind Fox.

Maybe they ship out Kreider as he's looking older and struggling with a couple years left at 6 mil.

Jones (+ w.e retention it takes)
For
Kreider
Othmann/Sykora

Othmann isn’t a big scorer in the AHL. Sykora worth even less. So unless I’m missing something there, feels underwhelming.

Aside from Jones being a possible malcontent - which I could care less about - Chicago can twiddle their thumbs and take their time.

If Jones becomes a problem for the clubhouse: document, document, document, suspend.

He is being paid 9,500,000 dollars a YEAR. Shut up & play. If you shut up and play well, that helps everyone.

But, I'd be in no rush to move him. If he's traded in two years, that's A-OK. His contract is irrelevant to Chicago.

Certainly don't want to take a bath on this trade. I agree. Sounds like he will play hard until he's moved. I'd much rather move him by this summer though. I think he's attractive now because of his age. I'm not so sure at 33 he's that attractive.

I suspect Jones game ages fairly well and there may not be some cliff he falls off soon. His game is not overly physical like say Seabrook. Jones will be 35 when his contract ends, not 38.

But yes, I would hope we make something happen by this Summer when Jones is still 30. TDL in the next couple of weeks for a good/fair return would be great, but this Summer is likely easier to get him moved. If you want a top of the lineup RHD, Pionk and Ekblad if they make it to UFA are the only possible options.

that's gonna be highly highly highly unlikely and the NHLPA will be all over that and will win.

unless he pulls a Corey Perry.

Funny because I would disagree and say he's completely physical. He plays a fairly dumb game that relies on his physical gifts to get by.

i think he meant physical in terms of hitting people. of the 21 defensemen to play for the hawks in the last 3 seasons, seth is 15th in hits/60 and and 20th in hits taken/60. what's fun is he plays so many minutes that without adjusting for playing time he's 3rd in total hits and 2nd in hits taken. since we're talking about how much mileage is on him, we can throw in shots blocked: sb/60 12th, sb total 2nd.

I'd love to see a deal with him going to Columbus. He might waive his NMC to go there as they're near the playoffs now with players getting healthy and prospects coming. Plus having Werenski doesn't hurt.

I want it to work out there because they probably won't have to retain as Columbus might have trouble getting to the floor next year and they have a bunch of intriguing young forwards.

Would love to trade with Columbus as they do have nice prospect pieces (and young NHL) at forward and a pair of 1st in the '25 draft. Bet they would love to move Severson who has been a bit dissapointing going into year 2 of his 8x6.25 deal but he has a NMC and I doubt he would waive for Chicago. Would have to take back the last year of Gudbranson I would imagine. Not sure you would be able to talk Jones into waiving to go back there despite the surprising season and them seeming to be further along in the rebuild.

He's already gotten worse as he has got older. He's worse now than 2 years ago, and way worse than he was 4+ years ago.

Ssshhhhhhhh!!!! There are 14 scouts from around the league subscribed to this thread.

Back to business....has anybody noticed that Seth had hit the inside of the crossbar at least 35 times this season so far...? It's a game of inches...

How much of it is aging and how much of it is playing on a shit team and disinterest? While you would like guys to be "professional" and play at their optimum regardless of circumstance, it can't be easy sucking pretty concistantly going on 4 years now. PP1 the last few years has included big doses of Donato, Kurachev, Raddysh, Foligno who wouldn't sniff even PP2 time with any other team. Guys like Bertuzzi, Teuvo, Domi, Tyler Johnson are not PP1 guys on actual good teams, but they were/are in Chicago. Add in the growing pains of LHD comprised of kids breaking into the NHL or washedup/retread guys and expecting stellar play is not overly realistic.

My guess is in a winning enviornment with a quality partner, you would see closer to what Jones was in Columbus than what he has been the last few years. Hopefully a several NHL pro scouts with other teams have that opinoin.
