The teams that Jones will waive his NMC and that will want him for a playoff run(s) are dealing in the currency of late 1st round picks. Jones unretained with taking back a short term dump (like Dumba or Manson) to make the money work for this and next year is getting a late first minimum. Look at what pending UFA Hanifin got back from Vegas last deadline....'25 1st, bottom pairing RHD, and a 3rd. Hanifin ended up signing an extention (8 x 7.35), but he is also the way easier to fill LHD and a step down from Jones in offensive production (despite playing for shitty Hawks offensive teams and less than offensive wagon Columbus). Jones @ 9.5 with a 10 million bump in cap will be like paying Hanifin 7.35 (again a LHD).
I just don't think collectively at fans we fully comprehend what every team having an extra 10 in cap in July, and then another 10, and another 10 over 3 Summers means to player salaries for guys getting a new contract (and how that is going to drive up average salaries) and existing contracts for good players with some term are actually going to be getting more valueable. Jones is going to go from overpaid by 1-2 million to fair value for what he is and even a chance he is a little bit of a discount in another couple of Summers.
