microdosing shrooms would help him more than whatever pseudoscience he's doing in India
I have no doubt there is some science out there, but I would love to hear you explain it, in your own words why it would be more helpful than this pseudoscience and not sound any crazier than that post.

Can't really speak to what Toews is doing, if it's making him happy then more power to him, but the tldr for psilocybin is it could reset your brain, which could be helpful for people with something like depression

The point wasn't to show the science and studies about it, I'm sure you could find the same for what he's doing. The point was competing over loosely studied ways to fix vague issues. I have absolutely no issue with either, if something helps, it helps. But the xbox over playstation attitude on stuff that we haven't scratched the service on, from people who probably couldn't explain it themselves, is funny to me.

Ayurveda is just a natural, holistic approach to managing health/conditions and has been used for decades.

He might be “cooked” from hockey, but don’t be a hater just because Toews found something that works for him that you have no knowledge about it.

Yeah, I have an autoimmune condition and with how shit the healthcare system is here, if I was rich, I would definitively travel outside Canada to try other things.

it's not holistic medicine.

if Toews feels better for it, that's fine. holistic doctors gotta make a living somehow

For what it’s worth, the flights to a place like India are quite expensive, but once you’re there, everything is unbelievably cheap including healthcare and different treatment modalities. The currency conversion is substantial.

One of the things I always appreciated about Toews was how he wasn't the traditional hockey robot. Guys like Kane and Crosby, they just eat, breath, sleep, think, love hockey. If they're not playing hockey, it's all they're thinking about. It's a big part of what makes them so good.

Toews has always been open that he has interests outside of hockey. Chris Johnston had an interview with him years ago, like 2016/2017ish, where they talked about everything from mind-altering substances, to reaching higher planes of enlightenment, to environmentalism, to the importance of knowing where what you put in your body comes from (he's a big proponent of farm to table, and teaching kids in Chicago how to grow their own foods... just as a life skill, he volunteered with a bunch of organizations toward that end).

I'm sure part of him wants to come back to hockey. And who knows, maybe this works. But I'm also confident that he could find any number of passions that fulfill him just as much as hockey did. Which kinda makes him more relatable than the single-minded types who retire and then try to figure out the fastest way to get as close to the game as they can.

Last I've read the science behind any benefits of microdosing psychedelics is murky at best so I don't know that it's any less of a pseudoscience at this point.

And there's scientific to back up the benefits of meditation.

Some people still think of it as sitting cross legged on a rug with incense burning and repeating "ohmmmm" but that's not really what meditation is.

Yeah, there’s tons of documentation now about the benefits of meditation on very physical, tangible things like neural connection strength and neuroplasticity.

He's on a lifetime quest to acquire even more intangibles.

We must stop him.

If he adds any more intangibles, it will create a singularity, leading to an immense explosion of tangibility.

Not unlike the big bang was a collection of energy concentrated into a single point that exploded into all the matter of the universe.

If I were in his situation, I’d consider sitting out until the second half of the season and taking stock of which team seems like the best fit for a playoff run.
Yep. I agree. He just needs to be careful in his team selection.

It's too easy to get caught up in points when deciding on the best, and then you forget about the intangibles.

Enlightenment has it's downsides. It makes you less competitive. This is probably great for him mentally and physically. He's already a bajillionaire and doesn't need to compete. But the NHL is full of killers and it's not exactly a nice peaceful game they play.

Crosby is really into history, it just doesn't come up that often in interviews. He was taking college classes a few years ago.

I can tell you that in almost every case now, if any 30+ NHLer hasn't had a contract in the league for more than one year, he's retired basically even if he hasn't announced it.

Actually for 30+ NHLers this applies even for guys who haven't played in the NHL for over an year generally.

Behind you, look out
For the people that dont understand what he is doing, it breaks down to this. Our brain can continue to cause problems even when there doesnt need to be problems anymore. This happens often with people in chronic pain. You can reprogram your brain to stop firing the pain alarms all the time. It isnt about re-aligning his chakra, it is about addressing the mental aspect of it. It works for a lot of people. The same way meditation can work for people with mental health issues.

Seems pretty obvious he was just tired of his hockey persona once he got older. In Canada/USA, while he's not an A+ tier celebrity, if he tries to go around in public he's gonna wind up being recognized. In India he's just a random white guy tourist. I'm happy he gets to do what he wants, no matter how weird people think this is.

He's collecting all of them so he can transform into Intangibles Voltron.
