I'm guessing he's either going to retire. Unless, maybe he's hoping to sign a PTO with a contender. Wonder how much he has left after missing a year.

I don't think he's returning. What would be the point? He's had a great career, made a lot of money and won three Cups.

If I were in his situation, I’d consider sitting out until the second half of the season and taking stock of which team seems like the best fit for a playoff run.

I'd be surprised if he does. He presumably doesn't need the money after cashing in earlier in his career, and he has nothing to gain by coming back. He'd be in steep decline or washed already.

Could be a useful vet in a bottom 6 roll for any team if he's recovered from those injuries he had.

I think he could. 3rd line shutdown role, 2nd PP time.

If he takes a low dollar contract I think he could still contribute to a contender

Toews seems like the type who genuinely loves hockey and will want to play as long as he can. Not sure it’s the right call given everything he’s been through but I get it.

Long covid can be a bitch. I had a coworker whose stamina was completely shot for nearly a year afterwards, so I can only imagine how difficult it must be to work yourself back to competing at such a high level physically.

Like if Bill Gates can become a billionaire, you can too! Sounds great but the odds are really, really, against you.

Toews having missed as much time as he has and considering the health reasons for it.. a successful comeback is very unlikely.

I saw him play one of his last games. Game 80 or 81 against the Wild. He scored a goal actually but it got waived off unfortunately. He looked gassed. I think his time is done.

It was always a long-shot he’d come back.

He had already taken a ton of time off, felt good enough to come back, then almost immediately felt like crap again.

Long COVID symptoms are a bitch. Hard to be a pro athlete with lingering vascular damage.
