Jonathan Drouin

Probably not going to get good offers from other teams as they will assume that his "ascension" is a product of MacKinnon. The best money will probably come from the AV's

We've been constantly told MacKinnon isn't as important to his team.

To be honest he got completely f***ed around by Jon Cooper in Tampa because they got mad he wasn't getting molded into Ondrej Palat. Imagine seeing a guy with that skillset at stapling him to the bench and only playing him with 4th liners. We went through a year and half of that crap and said "time to go to the minors" for absolutely no reason. Then Drouin asked to be traded. Once that crap was over he was put with Kucherov and was one of our best players every night.

Then we go and run a globetrotters system perfect for Drouin from 2017 to 2019. Massive LOL's
To be honest, it also took time for Drouin to figure out how to play the right way in Colorado. He was given a chance in the top lines, didn't work his ass off, and got demoted. Playing down the lineup he started working, eventually earning the spot back in the top-6 and hasn't looked back since. I bet in this situation it helps that Drouin himself realized he needs to change his game, this is his last shot to really rejuvenate his career.

I agree that Colton is the most likely one, but if Landy is healthy and Drouin sticks around, Lehk is getting pushed down to the 3rd line too, which makes his $4.5m cap hit less than ideal.

And Manson wouldn't be my choice to move either, but if Walker is getting a raise, I'm not sure how you justify keeping them both behind Makar.

Lehk is worth way more than 4.5, I'd keep him long term over Drouin, unless Drouin takes another step in these playoffs like Nuke did in 2022

Lol... the hate is just dripping off this post. Your threshold for that is way lower due simply to being overemotional about this individual.
Not at all. Drouin is a potential head case who shrinks under pressure. Avs need to be smart regarding his upcoming contract.

Small sample size but he was money in the playoff run in Tampa. I don't want to be hyperbolic and say he was best player every game but he often was one of them. Usually one of our 5 best players

Nobody is going to give him term or dollars. There's not a GM in the league dumb enough to think playing with a 140 point center isn't the reason for his very average production. This is the same guy 0 teams wanted at the deadline last year for even a 7th round pick. Everyone also knows his production will crater without that elite-tier player pushing him.

I guess he stays in Colorado or goes back to Tampa on a mildly cheap contract. He played well with Kucherov before and Tampa's got little cap space and a poor farm. He can also continue to play with an 140 point player. Or Edmonton.
I'm guessing no one but Colorado offers much term. But he could theoretically get dollars from a team like Chicago who has one year space to burn and needs to get some talent around Bedard. Also Bedard would provide the high end talent needed to help Drouin thrive

LOL. The hate is strong in you. I have no ill will to Avs fans / org.

Just stating facts. Drouin is a headcase that can’t handle pressure situations. When the going gets tough (as it does in the playoffs) Drouin shrinks.

Try to be productive in your posts and refrain from trolling/ slamming a fanbase because you dislike them! I am sure you can do better! :)
In Montreal, with half the city on his ass.
He didn't have that issue in the playoffs in Tampa and he won't be in the top 9/10 of players pointed at by media and fans in Colorado if they falter in the playoffs (Mack, Makar, Mikko, George, Nuke, Toews, Girard, Mitts, (Landy)).

My goodness! You don’t think Drouin was under pressure when he first came to Colorado? Drouin elevated his game.

He played good here before he left after the initial friction with management, he seems to have found his game again after leaving Montreal.
I just got done with a soliloquy of his misuse in Tampa. Now imagine being told to play franchise 1C in Montreal like you're MacKinnon and getting booed because you can't do it. No wonder he has rumored depression struggles. I would too

"I haven't watched Drouin at all this year but I like talking out of my ass"

I don't disagree, but in the unlikely event that Landy isn't LTIRetired, once they resign Mittelstadt and probably Walker, cap space gets really tight and Lehk may be an unaffordable luxury if he's on the 3rd line, especially if Kovalenko is what we hope he might be.

I also prefer Drouin on the top line with Mack, even if Lehk is the more complete player.

Landy isn’t going to be healthy. That’s a pretty big long shot. Lonzo Ball didn’t even come close in his recovery. I’d love to see it but Avs should be planning long term around a future without their Captain.

Hell yes. Lex is close to a core player and Colton is close to a bust. That’s said. He’s a cost controlled bottom six C that can score a bit and plays a heavy game. Good skating. Some crappy team that can’t attract UFAs would toss us a middle round pick.

Won’t cost an asset to dump him. If he returns something like a 4th round pick, you pull the trigger. His cap space is way more valuable than he is to the Avs.

I agree Landy most likely won't be healthy. But that doesn't mean there shouldn't be a contingency plan for the unlikely event that he is.

And, in the unlikely event that we need to create $7m in cap space to fit Landy back on the roster, moving Colton's $4m cap hit simply isn't going to be enough. And that puts someone like Manson or Lehk on the hot seat, because no one else that is even remotely expendable has the cap hit to make that much space.

If I'm his agent, I tell him to take the best offer Colorado gives him. He's clearly someone who needs to find the right environment to thrive, better to thrive in Colorado at 2M then to go through another breakdown making 3.5M elsewhere.

On the one hand, nothing would please me more as an Avs fan than for your scenario to come to pass. But if you knew how some of these Avs fan touting Drouin’s play felt about him early on in the season then you’d know the turnabout in their opinion of his abilities is genuine and sincere. He’s a more complete player now and you have to be in order to successfully play in Bednar’s system. I hope the Avs keep Drouin but he deserves a fair opportunity wherever he goes. Drouin has earned it. And many players need the right situation to thrive. Nichuskin is a prime example.

Think the best option for Drouin would be to sign a 1 year extension with Colorado. He's been a completely different player since the New Years, and his play should carry over to another team. If he stays another year I can see him hitting 65-70 points and then cashing in with a different team.

Selfishly I would love for him to sign a discounted multi-year extension.

3 or 4 year deal at around 4 mill per year with the avs. Similar to how Kane signed an longer extension with the oilers after the tryout.
