This dude was supposed to be out of the league not that long ago. He was labeled as lazy, terrible defensively, weak physically and super fragile mentally. His team even went to the Stanley Cup finals while he was rehabbing whatever he was rehabbing that year.

He then gets reunited with his BFF Nathan MacKinnon who probably put him on the chickpea pasta diet in Colorado and is now taking off like he has a rocket strapped to his bumhole, playing probably the best hockey of his NHL career. And he's doing all of this as he's about to turn 30.

Crazy turnaround for a player that was basically worth less than nothing not that long ago.

He’s always had the ability, that’s never been in question. It’s also been 14 games. Worse players have had longer ppg stretches

He has been very good since last season as well, just can’t stay healthy. Turned into a very useful, responsible two way player. Hope we are able to extend him even with his injury issues.

He's got 76 points in 93 games in an Avs sweater...agreed that too early for "PPG talk" but he's a legit 65-70 point offensive creator who actually competes hard in all zones in a non-small sample size in Denver.

The chemistry of the Drouin - Mittelstadt - Legenden line was sublime today. Let’s see if that same chemistry carries forward. The spacing between on that line was fantastic.

The Lane Hutson Burgeoning thread was started after game 2, no?

like I implied, I’m not surprised at all. He’s very capable. It’s just a matter of how long he can keep it up

Yeah but his first 20 games he played on a weird cocktail of a line with Tatar and Johansen, both of which were jettisoned. Drouin took time to find his game too but it took around 20 games to rebuild him if memory serves.

He seems like a good guy, happy for him. People always said he was lazy but I never personally thought that was the issue, he seemed to often give a good effort. I think his problem was more in his head, confidence and second guessing etc. The MTL market was the worst thing for him and now he's probably in the best possible place.

Lehkonen was good in Montreal. Drouin couldn't cut it mentally though; he will be fine as long as there isn't too much pressure put on him.
lehky went from bottom 6 to top 6 with colorado. drouin was expected to be something he wasn't in montreal, he's not a center and he's not the star player. he's a lot farther down the depth chart in colorado.

Not making excuses as ultimately they are paid to handle the pressure, but Bergevin really put him in a situation that he was always going to struggle in. Giving him a long contract when he was not proven. Trying to plug him at the center position when it was never going to work, etc.

His main problem, even in his final seasons in Montreal, is that he can't stay healthy.

14 games this year, but he's been this good for longer.

He put up something like 41 points in his last 36 games for us last year after being healthy scratched in a game.

He has simply been exceptional for us when he's in the lineup.

And it hasn't just been the production either... Dudes legitimately one of the hardest backcheckers on the team, wins so many puck battles, and makes so many smart defensive plays as well.

A true complete 180 from his time in Montreal. Obviously Mack has had an impact but I think the Avs coaching staff deserve a massive amount of credit as well for the work ethic changes.

It's to the point where some Avs fans are now suggesting it's worth keeping Drouin at say $4.5M over Rantanen at $14M.

Check stats.. Avs have only played 14 games this season so far? Man they are going to have busy second half of the season,

He missed nearly all of december and the first month of the season. So calling him a point per game player when we are closing in on the 50 game mark and he has 14 pts?
