Leafs fan here

Hows it going everyone, leafs fan here curious about Bernier. I use to love this guy, seemed like he had ton of potential. Do you guys still believe in that, or has he kinda lost it?

You guys are gonna enjoy frattin, hes a streaky player, but when hes dialed in he can score with the best of em. When hes cold he still throws his weight around and is a hard worker.
Scrivens is just kind of meh.

Hello...Bernier lost it?

Bernier has gotten better over his time here and was 9-3-1 with a 1.88 GAA. With Quick coming off back surgery, Bernier played more this past season and if it wasn't for him, the Kings *may* have missed the playoffs. This time next yr, there will be more Bernier Leaf jerseys than any other Leaf and he will be a star.

We hope Frattin reaches his potential here fast and scores 20+ goals. He has the tools and ability. Hope his knee is sound.

Really hope Bernier does well for you guys over there.... He looked great last year for us.... sad to see him go, but glad he's going to get a chance to play more...

I now have a reason to cheer for the buds. I will be routing for them when Bernier is net and jeering when Reimer is in.
Go Bernier GO!!

Thanks for the replies! Ive always been a fan of his and really like this trade as we were a bit overstocked with wingers and Frattin wasnt getting the minutes he needed to succeed. But when you watch him get into a hot streak, his production is drool worthy.

Bernier is the calmest goaltender the Kings have ever had. Even more calm than Jamie Storr, who was calm, bordering on comatose.

You'll find your team playing a less frantic game in front of him. Great with rebounds, great at reading plays, good with the puck (unlike Quick) and has great body language.

Bernier is a tremendous talent. In the end, you'll have fleeced the Kings talent-wise, but this trade was as much for things off-ice as it was on-ice for the Kings, so we're pretty much satisfied.

Bernier is an amazing goalie. I still remember that season in Manchester where he was over .93 SV% and was just controlling the outcome of games. He was unbelievable. Kind of a good problem to have, but sad to see him go. The only downside I can see to his game is he's not that great on stopping breakaways or in the shootout.

3 challenges for Bernier.

1- Open style of play in the East. He will face better goal scorers than the west.

2- Toronto is not as defensive as LA. He will have to face alot of shots and good
quality chances.

3- Media. Get ready, he will enter into a media hotbed. How will he handle the extra pressure?

Overall he will be succesful, I wish him the best.

I agree with those challenges. However I think he can overcome 1 and 2. I am worried about 3.

If Frattin's knee heals fine (and he has success with recuperation), the Kings will be quite satisfied, imho. He can only get better if he gets back to 100%. He has good hands, deceptive speed and has some hockey smarts.

I am curious how Bernier does. He sounds like just what the Leafs need in goal and will be a good partner to push Reimer. But, the Leafs need to improve/upgrade at D and still need some pieces on offense if they're going to join the Kings, Sharks, Bruins, Hawks etc. group of contenders.

Agreed. He will no longer be anonymous like he was in LA and now he'll be receiving goaltending tips from fans at dinner because "they used to play midget hockey so they know what they're talking about". The first bad game Bernier plays he'll wish he was back in Manhattan Beach.

Nobody here has ever thought Bernier ever went anywhere but up. There are even a few posters here that, at least before the playoffs, would rather have kept Bernier than Quick (I think they're crazy but that's another matter). This season Bernier played, because of Quick's little slump, his largest percentage of regular season games ever and came away with stellar stats.

His game is absolutely calm and in control, and positionally impeccable. Most of the time he doesn't even look like he is trying because he is just always in the right spot and doesn't have to stretch or flail about. He has a good glove hand and good rebound control. His one weakness is shootouts, which he just isn't very good at.

Also, by all accounts a very nice guy, a total professional, and an asset in the locker room. Although he almost never got to play 2 games in a row, even after great performances, he never complained and had a great relationship with Quick.

I have very little doubt that he will succeed in Toronto and you'll love him. Sorry to see him go, but I always did think he deserved more playing time and I wish him the best.

I am sorry if this has already been posted, I tried the search function and didnt see a thread on the topic.

I am looking for reliable information on bernier from kings fans, it is difficult trying to find correct information on him over on the Leafs board as I feel most of the posters havent seen to much of his game.

I'd like an overall summary of what we can expect from him, his assets and weaknesses and what he may become in terms of a goalie.

Thanks for any replies!

Bernier pisses excellence.

He will make Bozak a better skater, stickhandler, and bbqer.

He will make Kessel play like he is 6'9.

He will make Phanuef think that he is Michael Jackson

Thanks, Looks like the kings had confidence in him. Telos, I hope your right, I have never been a huge believer in Reimer

Telos is always right. He is so right that his wife and kids don't even use the word "left" anymore. They call it "opposite right"

Jonathan Bernier seriously is one of the most technically sound goalies on earth. I saw the goals Reimer gave up vs Boston in the deciding game and Bernier would have had all but 1 of those. I realize that this is my opinion and how could I know that, etc.
Reimer did a great job that series, but blew up in the end.
He was flopping all over the place. Bernier never flops around or
is out of control and rarely gives up a softie and stops just about everything he sees. He had that sick 1.93 GAA avg or whatever it was
and he played more games this year, due to Quick coming off back surgery. If it wasn't for his stellar play and 9-3 record, the Kings
wouldn't have made the playoffs! He also relieved Quick in 1 game vs the Black Hawks and shut them out for 30 minutes. He was totally composed and perfect.

The Dingo was dead on with his assessment...but it also could be said that Bernier's presence will also cause Reimer to have insominia and possibly develop ricketts.

He will make Phanuef think that he is Michael Jackson

Yes, he will play with just one glove, moonwalk on skates, sing Ma Ma Say, Ma Ma Sah
Ma Ma Coo Sa over and over and then literally catch fire....all because of Bernier.
