ENOUGH…this thread is about Siegs only. Go debate other players in the team thread
Look, you have to stop deleting anything I might write. It's a crime against art (your deletions are the crime not the erudite missives that enrich and enlighten my vast readership). Your willful and wanton censorship not only violates the First Amendment, but it's a deprivation of wisdom, wit, and intellect to those who will undoubtedly benefit from it.

Now, let's talk about what Siegs thinks Bratt will get....

I’m in the same boat with you. I thought Fitz got snookered by the Caps. Super happy to be wrong.
I never thought he was snookered. I just thought he was probably gonna be another Mirco Mueller (we didn’t pay as much for him) that just didn’t amount to a whole lot or more than a bottom pairing defenseman and played here for 2-3 years and that would be that.

Amazing contract, getting it done now as opposed to next year when he probably asks for a 1-1.5M more with another elite defensive season

If we actually get to a point where we are a playoff team and become a contender this contract will be why we can afford to keep another important player. Insane value and can potentially be one of the best contracts in the league. 6 more years at insanely low cap hits is amazing.

Pretty fantastic deal. Dougie, Siege, and Marino locked up long term with Luke and Nem coming in on ELCs means the defense is pretty much set for the next 5 years.
Music to my ears. Never would have thought this a few years ago but the pieces are there with tons of good prospects besides the 2 you mentioned.

I think maybe we are talking about two different things? I was suggesting he has a track record of looking to bet on himself rather than sign a longer deal (as always just my opinion and not pounding the table about it). Also I din't mean to imply that you were advocating he'd take a team friendly deal. That's just a general concept floating around the general discussion. I am just hopeful they can compromise. If Bratt is saying I won't take anything other than a two year deal short of a gross overpayment and if Fitz is saying it's seven or eight years or bust I'd be disappointed.
I highly doubt that’s the case. This is Bratt’s chance to cash out on a career year. At the very least it will be in the middle ground 4-5 year deal IMO unless he thinks he’s being lowballed.

I also don’t think that track record necessarily matters because taking a bridge deal when you haven’t broken out and no one’s really sure what you are or will be makes sense. But after a career breakout year it’s a big opportunity to cash out.

However this all comes down to what kind of money we’re talking and how much he has to lose and gain. I don’t think it would make sense for him to want a 4 times 7 over a 7 times 7 because he has more to lose in my opinion. If the numbers being discussed are closer to 5 million then he may very well be better off betting on himself.

The New Jersey Devils are enjoying an absolutely outstanding off-season. The Siegenthaler signing is brilliant -- he's the penultimate NHL bargain, a guy who makes your team a whole lot better by being on it without being flashy.

By 2023-24, the Devils will potentially have one of the best -- and youngest blue lines in the league, at a total contract hit of under $20 million dollars!

B. Smith-Nemec

Barring a trade, the Devils will have three more bottom 4 LD knocking with Mukhamadullin, Okhotyuk and Bahl. It's probably a couple years away when we can see a couple of kids knock on the door as RD candidates, particularly ex-US-NTDP-ers Casey and McCarthy. In under a half-decade, the Devils have turned an absolute tire-fire on the blueline into an embarrassment of riches.

Similarly, the Devils have solidified a disaster in goal with a pretty solid-looking 2022-23 pairing of Blackwood and Vanicek, with a couple of very intriguing prospects on the way in Nico Daws and now Tyler Brennan.

I do not think GM Tom Fitzgerald is done improving at forward, despite a promising top 6 which, at the moment, looks like the Devils strongest top 6 since the early 2000s. I feel Severson might be dangled to get another forward, and he's feasible as the centerpiece for a trade for another top 6 forward like JT Miller, Vladimir Tarasenko, Martin Necas or even William Nylander.

I'm just very encouraged by the job the front office is doing right now, and I think we should all be. It's going to be a fun team to watch next year in New Jersey.
