Player Discussion Jonas Brodin

All indications from sources are that Brodin’s injury after he blocked a shot and finished the game in Boston two nights earlier is serious enough to keep him out three to four weeks.

All Evason would say is “it’s serious enough that he will not play tonight.”

This does not seem optimal.

The #1 defensive defensemen in the NHL... at least by the stats used in this article:

An NHL executive once told me that Jonas Brodin would be the first shutdown defenseman he’d pick out of the entire league to defend Connor McDavid one-on-one. The numbers this season appear to agree. Playing on a shutdown pair next to Matt Dumba, Brodin has been an essential bedrock on Minnesota’s blue line for years.

Brodin is also symbolic of how the definition of a shutdown defender has changed. The 28-year-old doesn’t bully players physically, intimidate or block a ton of shots like the defensive defensemen of yesteryear — Brodin wins because of his mobility, impeccable positioning and clever defensive stickwork. Wild GM Bill Guerin did a fantastic job explaining what makes Brodin special in Michael Russo’s feature story a few months ago.

“He’s got kind of that (Nicklas) Lidstrom quality to him where he doesn’t kill you with a bodycheck, he doesn’t do anything to physically harm you or anything like that, but after the game, you’re confused as to why that was so difficult,” said Guerin. “That was the same thing playing against Nick. He never laid a hand on you, but you couldn’t get by him, you couldn’t dump a puck past him, you couldn’t get a hit on him, and he just broke out. Anytime you’d get to a puck at the same time, he’d be a little quicker than you. Brodes has some of those elements to his game.”

Where’s that one poster lmfao, the one from a few games ago ragging on Brodin

He's a nice guy and is really smart when talking about hockey. Just didn't agree with him when it came to some of those opinions on Brodin. But I don't think it's insane to question his or any Wild player's playoff performances.

So, he only played 50 out of 82 games this year, but played in the 4 Nations, and will be playing in the World's, rather than healing/resting up for next season? His body clearly can only take so many games.

He got cleared from injury and is obviously well rested after missing 32 games. Looking forward to him being a part of the Team Sweden that will surely crush Team USA at home ice in Stockholm.

Yet playing in the 4Nations. Brodin is not young anymore, and has played 853 games, averaging over 22 minutes, almost non of them of the easy PP variety. The wear and tear is clearly adding up, causing him to miss too many games.

He'll be just fine, if he can stay clear of the canadian star players attempts to injure.
This is a once in a lifetime opportunity, playing a championship on home ice with all his friends and family attending.
