Talk about experience..If that's their new top line then the average age is literally over 40. All of them played in Liiga 2003/04.
And Liiga attendance figures are disasterous.During Jokerit's KHL stitnt, their last year or 2nd last year in the league I wrote that if they ever drop out of KHL, it would take severa years when they get their things together. Well, it happened exactly like predicted.
Now, in North America, they would have instantly joined the highest league level simply with a new team and org because it brings money and publicity. Same way Maple Leafs bring publicity to Nhl just in smaller scale. So basically it's nice to have sport romantics type of thinking tand team crawling up from lower leagues but the opposite side is the reality that finnish sm-liiga needs publicity, money and a big teams desperately. If i recall correctly there hasnt been salary increases maybe in decases of teams' player budgets and so on. So it's becoming a semi-professional league.
Merging with the SHL is the right answer. And Liiga attendance figures are disasterous.
I would not claim that.Merging with the SHL is the right answer.
Swedes don't want it.Merging with the SHL is the right answer.
I bet in the long run, Swedes would love a Nordic league. I would also bet the Finnish teams' attendance would be a lot better if there was a Nordic league.Swedes don't want it.
Also, Liiga attendances are not disasterous.
Some attendance data from the 2024-25 regular seasonI bet in the long run, Swedes would love a Nordic league. I would also bet the Finnish teams' attendance would be a lot better if there was a Nordic league.
I wouldn't be as interested in a Toronto Maple Leafs vs. Barrie Colts game as a Leafs vs. Bruins game. Not for a second do I believe that a Pelicans vs. Ilves game would do half as well as a Frolunda vs. lves game.
Europe needs more big game vibes. Once the war is over in Ukraine (or Putin is gone), the KHL will retake all the good players again.
Different tradition in North America than in Europe. Finnish and Swedish leagues' games do better than Finnish and Swedish teams' CHL games.I bet in the long run, Swedes would love a Nordic league. I would also bet the Finnish teams' attendance would be a lot better if there was a Nordic league.
