Confirmed with Link: John Tortorella relieved of his duties as Flyers coach. Brad Shaw to take interim charge for now.

"Fire the next guy" will probably be appropriate, because things will likely not be much different in a couple of years.

It's an endless cycle.

Fire Hitch
Fire Stevens
Fire Lavi
Fire Berube

Fire Hakstol
Fire Vigneault
Fire Torts

The ones in bold have won the cup so you'd think know what they're doing. It does make you think sometimes (aside from Torts) that maybe the coach isn't really the big problem at this f***ing stupid hockey club.

Honestly I'm surprised they actually moved on from Tortorella.

The bad thing is I have no confidence they'll hire the right coach next. They should also probably continue to suck because having a shot at McKenna next year is franchise-altering. That said, if you suck while having a coach that can develop our young players and see promise for the future (ala 06-07), that's a huge difference compared to someone like Tortorella actively destroying careers. Not like we didn't all see that coming the day he was hired.
Exactly correct. The Flyers don't do that sort of thing though. Don't mistake the Flyers trading Farabee, Frost and Laughton for a tank or a rebuild. It's not. It's a reset to create cap space so they can do what they always do. Compare how other teams such as SJ and Chicago are setting themselves up for the future. They are proactive in their moves. Rather than reactive in the later stages of a team building strategy realizing that what you're doing is not working. Versus recognizing before hand what is going to work and getting ahead of it.

I'm so glad we let the coach drive Frost, Farabee, and Gauthier out of town (not to mention York who already had one foot out the door) before giving him the boot. Incredible asset management.
How did the coach drive Cutter out of town?

Farabee contract was becoming an anchor. whether you disagree or not they didn't want tp pay Frost what he likely would have received. Their is some sound logic behind that they did. Many just don't like it.

As is always the case with the Flyers, they do it too late. They got very little out of the Frost/Farabee trade. They are reactionary in a delayed manner rather than visionary.

I mean, we don't know for certain, but the prospect of playing for the most disliked coach in the league played a part in the decision I would guess. Especially 1 to 2 years ago when this team made Torts the face of the franchise.

Not to derail the firing of John, cause he deserved it, but what pray tell was the logic on selling low on two young middle 6 players who were in down years? It's not like this guys are on the downward trajectory of their careers. If/when Farabee bounces back and is a 50pt player again are you gonna come back and call the Flyers out for trading him? They don't want to pay Frost but are okay shelling out 4M/4 yrs for Seeler? The trade had Flyers logic, which infact is no logic at all.

Never said anything about selling low. That is a totally valid and diff argument. They should have both been moved much earlier.

If/when Farabee does? Or if/when he doesn't. Will you come back and say they made the right call if/when he doesn't? 50 point player once. let's not act like he was a consistent 50 point player.

IMO don't think the coach was any main or even big factor. Hopefully one day we get Cutters side. Just to clarify the Flyers botched that situation and all on them.

Dan Hilferty personally calling John Tortorella's Doctor post horse kick to the face and cancelling his insurance plan finger prints are all over this.

Shaw = Torts II, who's going to start the Fire Shaw thread?
I actually want the entire coaching staff to be sacked, especially that great PP coach Rocky!
DB & KJ will need to do their due diligence and search who the next HC will be, and allow that man to hire his staff. I don't want any remnants of Tort's to remain.
This franchise has been the joke of the league for quite a few years because of the blatant mismanagement of the FO when it comes to hiring people who understand how the game is played in the 21st century.

They got what their current value was at the time. They clearly had no intention of firing the coach when that trade was made. To me anyway.
