John Tavares the Man the Myth the Legend

Maybe with the cap going up. Still don't want him at all. He's going to get even slower than his already molasses speed.
I also prefer not to keep him just to clean slate the culture, but I would take him on $4.5M x 3 final offer with the understanding that he shifts to the wing by Year 2.

He can't keep pace anymore and it's not going to get any better, but for $4.5M he would be serviceable. The aging of his game would actually slow down as a winger since he'd still be able to do his damage down low and via deflectcions. Face-offs for tactical situations.

JT is two years younger than Max Pacioretty. So whatever you think he's worth on July 1, project that to a Pacioretty level player and ask yourself if you're doing the right thing.

Well JT kept his end, he never got worse than he was in New York/ we just overpaid because we got him for free
I will always maintain JT is a good dude (albeit somewhat robotic  ) and did nothing wrong leaving the island (except I do wish he maybe had tweeted the pajama thing AFTER a little goodbye tweet for the isles faithful, but frankly the whole week was a whirlwind he had family, finances, future to all think about).

I predict he signs with you guys for a significantly smaller amount. His heart is in Toronto. I am sure you can convince him to stay on a sweetheart deal.

3m max. So tired of these losers. Show in some way you ACTUALLY want to be here and you can do that by taking a massive discount. If not you can f*** off cause we didnt do shit with you anyways and youre only going to get older and worse.

Be a serious organization for once. Tampa let Stamkos walk and only offered him 3m because they knew he was beyond his time and being propped up by others. Exact same situation here.

He's never been a good Skater, but the past 2 Seasons, his speed has fallen off a Cliff. Hands don't look far behind.

I want him to leave, but with our lack of Centre depth, we will probably give him a 3 year deal unfortunately.

If he stays (more than likely) he needs to switch to the Wing, but in doing that we lose our best FO man.

Nightmare fuel to think what Treliving is gonna have to deal with this Summer.

I think you need to keep him for 2-3 years during this re-tool because as you said you will lose your best face off guy. And let’s face it he was exceptional this year at his age for production.

The team really is screwed though. No draft picks and they need to make franchise changing signings and trades if they want to actually win a cup. Like a Tkachuk to Florida type of team altering trade

Also it sucks to lose and asset like Marner for nothing.

Time to move on from JT. He had a good year, although he was bad against Florida. This is another player with simply too much scar tissue to justify bringing back. Thanks for the memories and good luck elsewhere.

The only way you bring him back is at 2yrs at 5m per as 3C. This is all I have come to count on him for him the playoffs.

Knies Matthews _______
Cowan ________ Nylander
McMann Tavares Domi
Lorentz Laughton Jarnkrok
Holmberg

Get a couple Dawgs please.

Even then, I disagree. You have to move on from the emotionally damaged players on this team. The only way you keep JT is if he agrees to take league min $850K, which obviously isn't going to happen. Just move on. It's cruel and unusual punishment to keep these guys together for their yearly humiliation ritual in front of the entire sporting world. Enough already.

Very true. Though the problem is the team is going to need two top 9 centres, ideally one of them a top 6 quality.

A alternative limited supply may keep him around unless the front office has some tricks up their sleeve

Judging by his post game comments, JT wants to stay. Hopefully he comes back on a 5 to 6 million dollar deal to free up some space to do other work.
2.5 Rob. Not a penny more. A true discount to offset the massive overpay.

He was so bad in the second round.. he needs to be a 3rd or 4th line guy.

Maybe we meet in the middle.

I think we are going to be forced to just keep patching it up over the next few years. The wild card is obviously if a McDavid wants to come save us. But just keep things out of the ditch while we still don’t have our picks.

Our first rounders are top 10, top 5 and top 10 protected respectively.

Are we sure he's still a C? He's basically a winger who's good at faceoffs. Horrible in his own zone and doesn't have the speed to do anything offensively in the playoffs

He's basically next year's Max Pacioretty so I think he's gotta come in at $4.5 million over a couple of years. Or better yet just start going 1x year, $4 million at a time.

I’d keep Pacioretty over Tavares. Tavares got to a stage this season where he should have only handled the puck within 15ft of the net. Anytime he held onto it and tried to skate he made some wild passes and if it was in his own end he usually ended up in an opponents stick or a turnover. Hes been a good hockey player. Never great and certainly never in the region of an 11$ million player.
