John Tavares the Man the Myth the Legend

Finished with 2 goals/1 assist in 12 games vs Florida,.

A fitting end for captain pyjamas, abysmal tenure with Toronto.

Patches had 2 goals and 4 assists in 7 games lmfao. Kind of fitting all the fraud four are outplayed by some plug to end this awful decade of their terrible play.

Unbelievably f***ing terrible this Florida series.

You just cannot have your centerman being this slow. Multiple series now you see teams actively exploiting us up the middle because JT cannot keep up with the play at all.

what a f***ing disaster this contract turned out to be.

Well JT kept his end, he never got worse than he was in New York/ we just overpaid because we got him for free

Under no circumstances do you bring him back. Outside of the early games against Ottawa he was a total non-factor. Even at $1 million why waste a roster spot on a guy who couldn't deliver in his prime when it counted, never mind now in his mid-30s.

Plus, the team has to move on from as much of this core anyway possible. Nylander & AM aren't going anywhere so JT & Marner is a start.

Bye, go away, don't come back.

JT got a lot worse since his NYI days

He was 9th in total pts and 10th im ppg from 2010 to 2018 in his 9 years as a islander (>300 games played minimum requirement) and had 22 pts in 24 playoff games being 1st on the islanders in his 3 years making the playoffs

For the leafs from 2019 to 2025 he has been 24th in total pts and 34th in ppg in the reg season. He has been much worse than his isle days. In the playoffs he has 31 pts in 51 games. He is a horrific 50 pt 3C as a leaf in the playoffs

Complete bust and waste of 11M. The worse UFA signing ever for the leafs. He killed the team culture and ruined our cap management

He looked like he really hit an age wall this post season. Full credit for a great showing this regular season, but you can't pay him much to return and the baggage is real. We have no center depth so don't be surprised if he returns, but it's just a bandaid at this point.

Fact is people pumped his stats and production, because of his "pro" status, but signing him was setting precedent on money and rushing things.

I loved JT a lot of the time, he was great, but he is not the guy we need anymore. He was abysmal this series, he would let his board battles fail and drop onto his ass. I know he can be better but he is getting up there, and 7 years of him was ENOUGH to know it doesn't work with him as well.

Love JT, but he is flawed. Time to move on

I'd keep him for a bargain cap hit tbh. We suddenly become really weak down the middle if he leaves and any FA replacement will take a big overpay.

According to reports, he left millions on the table to come here and there is no way he wants to uproot his family now

I'd offer him 2-3m to play wing because he is cooked as a C

If that's not enough for him, he can commute to Buffalo or retire

I've said (in several recent posts, as well as some when it happened) that JT handed over the C as part of a deal for himself.

'Oh yeah eh, I'll give Matthews the C there - but I want a new deal, at least 6 for 3 years after this one.'

A great RS performance followed by doing f*** all in the playoffs. He's too slow, he's not a great playmaker, his PP skills have been downsized from 'lethal' to 'pretty good but not elite' and he likes the momentum-killing Ozone penalty.

He's never really been a fantastic two-way player either, the only thing he's consistently great at is faceoffs (so is David Kampf).

...He can take 5x3, or 2x6 or he can f*** off. Telling Mitch to play in traffic is anticipated - telling JT to pound sand is a statement, team needs a statement.

He'll put up 65 points next year, regardless of where he plays.

But what's the point of bringing him back? Every single one of the main five guys who play for us next year is more of the rot remaining, more of a reminder of the futility, more guys in leadership positions who bear the scars of the failure.

Bringing him back doesn't make any sense, not at any price. He is fired, along with the other guys.

JT, if you really love the Leafs, let us go.

I think he was looking great in the playoffs until that hit to the head

He’s the only core 4 guy in my opinion that gets a pass this year. He has an incredible regular season and start to the playoffs. And after that hit to the head he was toast.

I’d re-sign him for sure as they need quality players during this transition

He looks so horrifically slow for playoff hockey. How the hell does anyone want him back?
People are such box score watchers.

The man had 3 ES points the entire playoffs. PP merchant without making it better.

He also kills the PP with his inability to HANDLE THE PASS.

I'll take him for 2mil, he's 4C level at least. Not a surprise, but 3C Domi was clearly better.

Domi was 100% more effective offensively than Tavares at even strength. This is 2 playoffs in a row now that Domi's shown that. I know some people love to shit on Domi's defensive game but the funny thing is it might even be a bit better than Tavares' at this point in time.

It's sad, when part of the reason I like Domi, is we're soooooooooo damn slow as a team.

I’d be ok with JT coming back at 3-4m on a 1-2 year deal to play 3rd line LW.

Anything else, walk. They do need a 2C badly though. Sam Bennett would be perfect but would he sign in Toronto?

Tavares had 4 points in the first two games of the post season and 3 points in the next 11 games. 2 points in 7 games against Florida. He was the permanent fixture beside our leading scorer in the playoffs for crying out loud.

You flat out cannot have this guy as #2C.

Yeah his production disappeared basically right after the head shot. If you play people assume you are okay but the team should have sat him down if he was hurt. Maybe they will talk about it when they tell us whats wrong with Matthews.
