I love JT, but I can't understand how he is truthful in that statement, I don't see this current team going anywhere, and I am sure JT is wishing he was playing in another place.

We have one of the best prospect pools in the league, and one of the deepest D in the league. Ho hum? What?

Dal Colle and Barzal look like the only top 6 locks. (Beauvillier is already a marginal top 6 player) Pulluck is the only top 4 lock. Every other prospect is looking like bottom 6 players at best. Forgive me if I think the last place team in their division whose prospects can't crack that lineup have a ho hum prospect pool

This was just yesterday from JT: "Yes, I'd like to be, for sure. I try to not think about it a whole lot. Obviously, I'm getting closer to the end of this contract but I've always stated how much I love being in New York and being an Islander, how well people have treated me here and the organization as a whole. We've had something good building here the last couple of years and I'd love to see it through. When that time comes, I want something to work out where both sides are happy and I remain with this team. Really good times are ahead for the franchise and I want to keep contributing to that and doing my part."

He isn't going anywhere. Enough already.

What else is player to say publicly to the fans and his teammates.
Players, coaches, executives can say anything publicly. And radio, TV and reporters can show and write anything they want.

"He isn't going anywhere. Enough already." Maybe, but it seems to me that anyone that believes that truly is a FANatic and really gullible.

After the whole Stamkos thing, no point speculating on my part. Just wait and see. This year cant make him feel too good though.

Edit. Hes not a UFA till 2017. Why are people even bringing this up....

That's this season... this is the 2016-2017 season. He becomes a UFA a the end of next season, at the end of the 2017-2018 season.

The same thing was said when guys like Nelson, Strome, etc. were coming up through the prospect ranks. Having a bunch of good prospects doesn't mean you're guaranteed a bright future later, especially when the majority of them aren't even "can't miss" type prospects.

How many of them are looking like they'll become elite players? Most of them look like they'll be more on level with guys like Strome and Nelson, and that's if they even pan out. There's no Eichel, Matthews, or Laine waiting in the wings. There's not even a Marner.

And De Haan, Nelson, Lee, etc came out pretty well from that list, Sid. Strome was the only one looking to bust, and honestly I think he can rebound with the proper coach. Hopefully it will be with us.

Right now, Barzal, Beauvillier, Ho Sang, Pullock and Sorokin (no order) look to be the top of the list, with Dal Colle looking kind of average right now. Pelech and Mayfield are doing well. Vande Somple is doing well.

And no, there's no Eichel/Matthews/Laine waiting in the wings, because those players don't wait in the wings. They'd be on the team immediately. The only time they were waiting in the wings was between the lottery draft and the season opener.

Isn't he joining the maple leafs along with McDavid, Price and Karlsson?

The bolded is pretty much my point, though. You're right, some of those guys did turn out decent. But that's resulted in exactly what ails the Islanders right now -- a bunch of good to decent players, but short on elite players.

So even if this new crop of "can't miss prospects" turn out to be the next Nelson, Strome, Lee, De Haan, etc., their impact will be similar, meaning the Isles don't have any guys coming along to take them to the next level.

he needs to leave. i'm sorry but the new york islanders are an embarrassment and JT is a premier talent in the league and he should be showcased. the man is playing the prime of his career in front of a Honda Pilot and a half packed house, it's a joke.

If if if. If wishes were fishes the world would be an ocean. If Sorokin plays to the level he has been, he's going to take the league by storm. If Pulock lives up to his potential, we have a winner there. If Ho Sang makes the most of his chance...

There's lots of ifs. Sadly, the Isles did poorly for a LONG time, and never really got much out of it, not even the elite level draft positions that other teams got for multiple years in a row. We didn't have a string of 1 or 2 picks, we had 5 and 6 picks. You know as much as I do that the talent thins out and becomes less of a guarantee once you get past 3 or 4 most years. I'm not making excuses, I'm just saying we took shots, even on safe bets (Strome, Dal Colle) and they didn't light things on fire. We took chances and some panned out.

I've been a fan of this team since I was 4 and saw the cup raised. I've followed this team with a passion since 92ish. I know **** when I see it, and I don't think we're at a place where Tavares will walk, I simply don't. Snow and Capuano HAVE to go though.

JT is going to be offered big time money, he's the face of the franchise after all, plus the farm system is most likely going to be done developing guys like Dal Colle, Ho-Sang, Barzal, Bellows, etc. by the time his contract is ready to expire. Toronto is most likely not going to get JT even if he tests the market, I think if Buffalo has the money it makes 100% sense for them to go after him and 100% makes sense for him to sign with them, he'd be playing with Okposo and Moulson again and not to mention Eichel is on the roster as well.

it doesn't matter what's in the farm, why stay in brooklyn?! they practice in east meadow, the trip to brooklyn sucks. the building is never full and he doesn't get half he exposure he should because the islanders are a third rate organization playing in an awful building. if he has any sense he'd get the hell out of that place.

Owners are already looking for a way out of Brooklyn, and made it clear they're getting rid of the Snow/Capuano reign of terror.

i'm from long island, the coliseum is a pipe dream, and that queens idea would probably take another 5/6 years to complete. i mean if he wants to wait and see with his career be my guest i guess

Moulson is nearing the end of his career though, would be surprised to not see him bought out if not vegas bound.
He is good on the PP, but really sucks 5on5. And to make room for JT we would need to get rid of that contract and maybe bogo's to.

Until Tavares actually re-signs with New York I won't believe he's staying their long term. He's a good talent, he wants to win and until the Islanders show a commitment to winnng I don't think he's going to stay there.

My favourite part of this thread is how all the Habs fans are the ones saying that he's going to sign with the Leafs.
