I don't start many threads, because I usually have nothing new to say, and ther might be another thread about this, but rather than my MO of trolling those lol...

John More was definitely more mobile, pinching deeper, taking chances... regardless of whether we think he's good enough to reap positive effects (points) by doing this, he was clearly told to take chances, now that he has a reliable partner in Klein...

If Girardi is re-signed, there is almost 0 puck skill on the right side. Is this the design for next season? Is Moore being groomed as an offensive dman, again? Torts tried, then reeled him back in, and AV kept him there. I guess in a way I'm speculating whether we will replace Girardi via trade or free agency, but can anyone else see more becoming what Del Zotto should've been, a 35- 40 pt. 18 min. dman?

I sure hope so. Other than the little flashes we saw from Staal, McDonagh is our only offensively talented d-man on the left side also. That's one talented d-man out of six. That doesn't fly in today's NHL.

If Moore can develop into something relevant and we can snag an offensive D-man on the right side, we're set. Otherwise, we're in deep ****.

He was taking chances, and consistently flubbing them. At one point he rushed it up the ice only to skate the puck right into another Rangers skate.

He's a worse version of MDZ. If we want offense on the blueline, we need someone else.

I see more Matt Gilroy in him than DZ... can rush the puck and pinch due to his skating ability, but doesn't necessarily do anything noteworthy after that.

Had a nice dipping slapper from the point that Halak made a great pad save on

Can Moore do the job?

Let him play himself out of a job or win the spot. He will be challenged by prospects in the near future so he is currently a no 6 D acting as a placeholder until someone better comes along.

The Rangers decision to trade DZ was not based on whether Moore was better than MDZ but rather was there much of an upside in keeping MDZ?

MDZ offered a better trade value, a higher contract renewal, and was not good enough offensively and not good enough defensively on a regular basis.

Moore better be able to provide some offense from the blue line this year and for years to come because there is nobody else in the pipe that is going to in the near future. Mcilrath and Allen are not offensively gifted maybe Skjei will provide some offense but when will that be 2-3 years? With DZ gone if Moore flounders were back to where we were pre DZ, and even where we were with him, getting absolutely no offensive contribution from the blue line.

I get McDonagh's two way game has come a long way but he logs 25 minutes a game to shut down teams opposing top line, if he chips in on the offensive side great but he's not a guy that should be relied on for offense or play the PP.

I don't think Moore's play was ever promising with the Rangers. People just loved him when he came over at first because he was shiny and new and could skate fast.

Moore has a very good shot, better than MDZ or Gilroy. Which in my opinion is the key to success for a OFD. The other aspects of his game do need to catch up though. Someone should tell the kid to shoot more and not handle the punk in Ozone corners as much.

He was definitely better last season, but it's mainly this.

Moore has a 10 cent head. I'd trade him as soon as possible before his value plummets, ala MDZ.

By and large, the answer is no, I think, which begs another question that doesn't belong in this thread, and can only be answered in time. I don't see a whole lot in Moore, but don't mind him so much.

He should be moved to forward, with his size and skating ability, he can be more useful than playing defense.

This.

Moore is a frustrating player to watch. He gets the puck and decides to rush it up himself, passing on opportunities to move the puck up to open forwards and push the pace. He seems to lake the ability to move the puck consistently , he always tries to skate it himself. He routinely makes the wrong decisions , rushing wen he should pass, holding the puck too long and losing the opportunity to pass, pinching at the wrong time , jumping into the play when his partner is already jumped into the play (did this continually with MDZ but most nyr fans would blame it on MDZ anyway) and just makes so many boneheaded decisions.

I look at him and see a guy with tremendous skating ability and not much else. Sometimes guys like him can get buy on their wheels alone for so long that the other parts of their game don't develop completely which is especially noticeable at the NHL level.

My main frustration is that he doesn't have the iq or vision I be a PMD yet people here think that's what he's going to become. I'm sorry PMD don't pass up the opportunity to spring a player on a breakaway in favor of rushing it themselves and allowing the other team to catch up.

He is an inferior player to MDZ in all but two ways: skating and contract. That's it.

I was initially excited about getting him in the trade last season, but I too put too much emphasis on skating. Definitely the bolden.

I can't stand him. Seems like he makes his teammates worse.

% offensive zone starts: 62.0

% offensive zone finishes: 48.4

That is terrible. Way worse than any regular defenseman on the team.

This. Over and over.

He's incredibly blah right now, but I'm fine with being patient with him. If he's still playing as poorly as he has this season in two years, peace.

The hatred and lack of patience for this guy is unbelievable. John Moore was never billed as an "offensive defenseman" by people in the hockey community. He had a few years of high point totals while in juniors, but almost entirely because of his work on the power play. "Fans" erroneously see that and assume he's supposed to be an elite PMD. He's a guy who was a very nice PPQB but to this point hasn't been given the chance to do it at the NHL level.

If you followed scouting reports on Moore when he was drafted, or even keep up on what people around the league say about him today, nobody thinks of him as that type of player. Moore is a guy who was one of the best defensive players in the USHL his entire tenure there and continued steady play with Kitchener of the OHL. He was drafted to be more of a McDonagh type, guy who can play great defense and has some offensive upside. Specifically on the power play, which he has not been used on at all.

Has the defense come for Moore yet? Not exactly. His skating is elite and his positioning is good, but not great. He needs to bulk up maybe and get stronger, but it seems that Rangers brass wants him to play a style he's not exactly accustomed to playing. The guy has also played a lot of this season on his right side. For those saying he's WORSE than Del Zotto, get a grip. Defensively Moore had a few bad games in a row there because they were trying to showcase Del Zotto and kept him on the left side. When they switch and Moore was on his strong side, DZ looked horrible while Moore looked fine. With Moore back on his natural side and a steady stay-at-home guy like Klein back there, I guarantee Moore looks great over the next month. I actually thought he looked really good against St Louis.
