Yep. Klein has been very, very good for us. Surprisingly steady on the back-end. He's really replaced Sauer. Sauer used to be that steady, 3rd pairing rock. Funnily enough, Klein could have really steadied MDZ's game I'd bet. Just like Sauer.

I see him as our Sauer replacement as well. Although that's a good thing, it really bends my feelers.

Yeah, Sauer is such a tragic story. I really hope he's doing well enough in his recovery. I wish we'd hear a bit more about him and how he's doing in every day life. He seemed like a great guy.

If you can overlook his "softness" Diaz is good 5-6 guy with excellent gap control, an active stick, good position, an above average first pass and untapped offensive in him (though I don't think he'll ever reach his offensive potential). Sometimes he lacks poise and gets pushed off the puck, but all bottom pairing guys have their deficiencies and I think Diaz's pros outweight his cons.

Diaz has played with a surprising bit of nastiness since he joined us. He really likes to crosscheck and whack guys in front of the net.

I really do like him as a bottom pairing guy for sure.

No matter what combination of the three you put out there, they're going to struggle at even strength. Might as well keep Diaz and Klein for PP and PK purposes, respectively.

Klein has been the worst Dman on the team by a wide margin.

I know people here want to like him because they moved MDZ for him, but he's a massive disappointment.

What is your proof that Klein is so bad? He isn't an offensive defenseman so production shouldn't be a factor. He is rarely caught out of position and uses his strength well.

Conventional wisdom seems to be he doesn't have a very good Corsi rating. So an experimental statistic indicts his performance.

Yea but who is going to replace Moore's attributes of being able to skate fast and just sorta be there?

Yeah, who cares if he's in his own zone for the majority of his ice time despite getting extremely sheltered minutes?

The Klein hate is so baffling/infuriating, hes been nothing but a solid add for this team. When was the last time the rangers had the luxury of a 18-20min a night guy on their 3rd pairing? Would you like to breakout some tape of the McCabe, Bickel, Eminger days?

What about Bozolinsh? Christian Backman? Strudwick (although I did like him overall)? Unfortunately it is a long list.

I can't remember the last time they did. Including now.

Still not sure that either Diaz or Klein are comfortable playing the Left side.

Which is why I chose Moore.

Maybe dress 7 defenceman, play Diaz up front a few shifts on the 4th line and let him QB the PP.

Something to think about.

People want to "believe" he's been good because we traded MDZ for him?

I think it's the opposite to be honest. People want to say he sucks because they need something to gripe about.

No reason to break up the fourth line...

Out of curiosity, is that abnormal for a 3rd defensive pairing, or for a defensemen who get's bottom pairing minutes?

Is Klein a top 4 Dman on the majority of NHL Teams?

His time on ice on one of the better defensive corps in the NHL in Nashville indicates that he would be, yes.

His obscene PK time is also indicative of the fact that's hes a very decidedly defensive defenseman, with very little offense, not unlike Sauer.

I mean, generally, third pairing defensemen will be worse players so they get more sheltered minutes and worse possession numbers. It's hard to find a guy more extreme than Klein, though.

People saying get rid of Stralman and have Diaz and Moore play next season aren't worried about having another pairing like MDZ-Moore?
