I can see him get claimed by a team that want a solid fourth line center. I have no idea why Avs waived him. There are other bums I'd rather waive.

I....have no idea why. He's a really good 4th liner.

$1.8M cap hit, 1.9M salary. Who has that sort of money/cap available to add a player of his caliber? And he's been getting 15-16 minutes a game the past 4 seasons, so that production hasn't been coming from the 4th line.

Since 2013 his two most common linemates are Mcleod and Talbot. The highest percentage of his points have come with Talbot. His production has been coming from the 4th line.

I'd always happen to catch snippets of games where he'd make a nice move and display some real nice hands. I think he's worth a claim.

When playing on the 4th line he has the puck on his stick for almost the entirety of his shifts. Good defensively, good PK'er. He fails when moved up in the lineup but he's as good a 4th line centre as you can imagine. This move is mind boggling.

His hustle made this OT magic happen too. No idea why he's being waived over roasted turds like Blake Comeau.

Mitchell is actually useful. We have one of the worst bottom 6's in the league.

This is disappointing.

Mcleod I'll give you but Talbot played 16:19 average his first season followed by 14:00 the next season during his tenure with Colorado, those are not 4th line minutes.

Those were his two most common linemates but he spent most of his ice time away from them. Also, he had more points with both Iginla and Mackinnon than he did with McLeod and only 1 and 2 less than he had with Talbot.

At even strength, he spent 592 minutes with Iginla (compared to 684 with McLeod and 625 with Talbot), 426 with Tanguay, 362 with McGinn, 339 with with Landeskog, 336 with Duchene, 138 with Stastny, 118 with Soderberg, and 97 with O'Reilly. It's clear he hasn't been utilized solely as a 4th liner. 4th liners don't average almost 16 minutes per game over a span of four seasons.

Talbot's top 3 linemates those two years were Mcleod, Mitchell and Cliché. Those 4 were our mixture of 4th liners/scratches. Look at minutes all you want dude but I'm telling you who played on the 4th line. Patrick Roy played his fourth liners more than any other coach in hockey.

Iginla spent time demoted to the 4th line. Of course he spent minutes with all those players. Patrick Roy shuffled lines like it's nobody's business. But John Mitchell was primarily a 4th liner as long as he's been with the Colorado Avalanche.

Cody Mcleod spent over 100 minutes with both Duchene and Mackinnon over the last 3 years. Are you going to say he wasn't a fourth liner too? It's how the team was designed.

McLeod has averaged 10:20, 11:11, and 10:32 the last three seasons, compared to 16:16, 15:51, and 15:15 for Mitchell.

The ice time and linemates make it pretty clear that Mitchell's spent considerable time in the top nine. I don't know why you are bothering arguing this.
