LeBrun: John Klingberg and/or Joel Edmundson to the Oilers at the deadline

The only way I can see Klingberg with the Oilers is take offensive responsibility from Nurse on the first pair to refocus Nurse on cleaning up his defensive game and move Ceci down to a lower pair to help on defense as well.

But even then they’d need to move Barrie for a 2L stay at home defend without the puck type to play with Bouchard, so I don’t see the urgency to move that much around all at the deadline. Rather get the 2L at the deadline and reworks the lower pairings next offseason with Puljujarvi off the books, like Holland should have done this summer.

Just letting you know Edmunson likely won't be cheap.

This is true. While Klingberg will likely be available for a second. That value of his is coming down. Anaheim wanted a first? With all the rumors. A second + B prospect is in the works at this point.

You take Klingberg for 2nd 23’ pick and Petrov. Young Buck kid who can help our forward line with size. We do amazing on reclamation projects.

Uhhh they have completely different playing styles. The Oilers have one glaring need on defense, and Klingberg does not fill it.
This is a bit simplistic. I think the Oilers could use a lot of things on their blueline.

Top pair guy to play with Nurse. This top pair guy actually probably should be a puck mover, as Nurse is fine skating the puck, but has too many costly turnovers to be our point man. We were hoping Bouchard was going to take over this role, and he still may, but he isn't there yet. Barrie is a good puck mover, but he isn't an upgrade on Nurse overall. The issue here, is that while Klinger is a puck mover, his weaknesses are similar to Barrie's. That said, he's been good his entire career until he gets to a Dallas Eakins team, so maybe this is how we get a top pair guy that we've needed for years - wait until Eakins makes him look awful, get him on the cheap, extend him. But its a huge gamble, because it is more of what we already have. If he rebounds to what he was in Dallas, he's the best of that type of player we would have though.

We also need a 2nd pair LD. We're hoping that's Broberg too, but we need experienced guys in that role now. I like Kulak, but it's become obvious that he isn't quite the caliber of player we need on the 2nd pair alongside Bouchard. This is where the Edmundson talk is coming from, but I don't know if he is the answer. He's the right type of player, I'm just not sold on him being the right caliber of player.

Nurse - ???
??? - Bouchard/Ceci
Kulak/Broberg - Bouchard/Barrie
Niemelainen

multiple bottom pairing defenders?
Edmunson plays heavy PK time but plays bottom pair 5v5 minutes on one of the worst defensive team in the league (worse than Edmonton) and yet he is somehow better than Ceci who plays top pairing minutes and does better at it than Edmunson does on the third pair?
If Montreal fans are so desperate to move him, its because they know he isn't that good and they might be able to bend someone over to get him. That's exactly why I'm cautious too. He isn't very good.

I wouldn’t trade Barrie. Tell me where I can find Consistant Top 10 offensive production from a D-man, year in and year out for 4.5M a year. Won’t find it in Klingberg for essentially double the money.

This was my exact template in the summer but HFOil laughed at me and said over and over that Broberg was the answer at LD and Nurse didn’t need a better partner than Ceci to live up to this contract.

Holland needs to do something very un-Holland-esque and actually address the team’s weaknesses. That will mean giving up actual assets, which again he hates to do, but it’s the only way this team can be a threat.

We're desperate to move him because we're going hard for a top 5 pick and he doesn't fit our future timeline.

I don’t think either of those two things happened.

Let's be real here, you're desperate to move him because he is a marginal asset that you feel has significant trade value.
100% real it's a combination of both. He's one of 3 veterans (excluding Wideman) we have on the backend. After he leaves it becomes Savard and Matheson. His departure is good both in terms of bringing us value back and aiding us now and in the future with recouped assets.

Left deal is Fowler. What does your team having to offer? Anaheim has Minty waiting in the wings. And Noah Warren who will likely make Anaheim roster this season. He was last one cut during training camp. What can you offer for Fowler.

Yes let's be real here.
Habs are not desperate to move him. If that was the case he's be gone.
Doesn't fit our rebuild timeline. Any asset we get is a bonus. Insiders are claiming that he has value. What value? I guess we will all find out.
Will he get a 1st? I have my doubts That time may have passed but the trolls [ not you ] that come in and claim he's only worth a 4th is what ruins good threads.

Ducks fans forget about Klingberg. You want immense value back and more PICKS. I offer 3 first round picks: 1st 23, 1st 24, Broberg (1st 19).

And it will only cost you Mintyukov.

Ceci is pretty good, Kulak is a 3rd pair general. I dont think I agree with you.

I wonder if Holland really has given up defence, and just want to play pond hockey - just outscore the opposistion.
Gretzkys 47p may be in the danger.

But if Edmondson comes cheap, I accept pulju+ 3rd rounder for Edmundson. A D backup is better than no backup.

Edmundson would be 4 -6 D.

Nurse Ceci
Edmundson/Broberg Barrie
Kulak Bouchard

Klingberg is a RD, wich makes it worse.

Nurse Ceci
Kulak Klingberg
Broberg Barrie/Bouchard

Edmundson is capable playing top pairing minutes if paired with a very strong partner (Pietrangelo in St Louis). Can't say the ame for Ceci and Kulak.

Edmundson is better than Kulak and Ceci combined. Ceci is a bottom pairing dman on most teams. Kulak is better.

Is he a just below all star in other words. Ceci is pretty good. Having a gard syretch now maybe, but he has some goods in him.

Just re-reading the headline again. Edmundson and/ or Klingberg.
okey?

whos to go?
Pulju and...? Has ro be another D with salary right?
Ceci?

Nurse - Edmundson.. welp.
Broberg - Klingberg
Kulak - Bouchard/Barrie

But isn’t it better to compare what he is doing present day than 4 years ago?
It’s been about 18 months since the end of the Habs Cup run that Eddie was great in. Since then battled some injuries and is now asked to carry 4 rookie D on most nights.

Zero question he gets a first if he’s moved with retention

Minty is untouchable…. Anaheim says no Warren and Minty is our Niedermayer and Pronger going forward

He’s a bottom pairing defender right now. Anyone spending a first on him is going to be kicking themselves.

As much as i agree with you as a habs fan, there is one constant in this league : big meany defensemen always get overrated by GMs.

I wouldn't be against something around Poolparty vs Edmundson tho
