Player Discussion John-Jason (JJ) Peterka, RW (34th overall, 2020) -- Signed to ELC

I agree, I'd only deal him in an effort to bring in a sure fire top line or top pair talent. Jason Robertson for example.

I dont want to trade him for a Rossi type, where I have questions as to their ability to hit their ceiling.

Peterka is probably the most impressive offensive talent I've seen since Eichel came to the club. Maybe Thompson when he broke out, but he was 25/26 then. JJP at 21/22 has an ability that likens him to some of the superstars of the game.

His defense stinks, but I think there is a >1% chance he becomes a legit 100 point player in this league.
Tage broke out when he was 23 years old. And JJP just scored the same amount points at his 23 year old season. Only JJP has had a more consistent progress with his short career than Tage.

Tage also had a lot more upside because of his size. Peterka doesn't have that upside.

I don't mind trading any player whose hockey IQ isn't a strength. Every trade that's bit buffalo on the ass has involved extremely high IQ players and that's why they succeed after leaving. Ditching lower IQ players like Cozens and Peterka will never bite us on the ass. He'll have a 40 goal season, sure, but I don't think he'd ever be well rounded at all, and won't thrive in the playoffs like ROR, Eichel, and Reinhart.

And ostensibly we'd get someone really great back, so the other team is taking that risk too.

LW is also the lowest value position.
