I know we want a better two way game from him but a 16 goal increase from last year is impressive. Our only forward to actually improve their offensive numbers this year.

With a right coach I think the other stuff will come.

Towards theses last Hames he has gone deeper into his own zone and backchecked better also jjp-thonpson-tuch has looked like a great forechecking line

I don't understand the want to move this kid. Swift skater with hands and a nice shot but all of the young player downfalls that are fixable. Let's just chill for a bit
It would've needed to be for a bigger fish, but with Ruff enticed by Peterka Im in return enticed by what Ruff can turn Peterka into.

If Ruff can get JJ to buy into backchecking consistently and changes nothing else about his game, that’ll do wonders for his all-around impact.
It would have some impact since his legs are always fresh for offense now...

This hangup on Peterka's defensive game just does not make sense to me. The only forwards on the team with better on-ice xGA this season were the "defense only" guys and Mitts who everyone considered to be the best two-way forward on the team. In every metric I look at he rated out as above average defensively. I know the numbers are flawed and not infallible but if he was as bad as this board thinks he is, it would show somewhere.

If you watch the games he consistently fails to back check with any kind of intensity, he doesn't really engage in the defensive zone. He's basically Skinner at warp speed so it looks like he's doing more because he's moving faster

I love JJ's skills and am still shocked he didn't go in the first round, but goddamn son, a 2 on defensive retrievals?! Eff off with that noise and dig, boy!

That's how he got his nickname "Diode": by being electric only in one direction ;)

That Guenther contract is just awful, as far as what it means for JJP.

I think that it's inevitable that 7 or 8 years for JJP means higher annual salary than Tage. I woulda locked that down at before the draft.
