I am guessing Edmonton with Campbell going the other way.
I think that makes a lot of sense tbh. Bit of a gamble both directions, but I think it's one that makes sense.
Campbell would be a great gamble for the ducks IMO. Campbell's biggest flaws are mental; getting in his own head under pressure, and pressure in Anaheim, particularly right now, is essentially zero compared to Edmonton or Toronto. Campbell's best asset is IMO his team first approach, Skinner noted that Campbell was probably his biggest coach and supporter. That matches with Anaheim grooming their young starter in Dostal worst case scenario they're just paying for that mentorship. Worst case Anaheim gets a better luck and sets up Dostal for success.
Gibson is a gamer, but he hasn't really been great for a few years. Oilers gamble that in New spot he refinds his old game. I think it's possible that he does, notably because I feel like a lot of the times when Gibson's stats are pretty bad in a game is because he tends to get frustrated the teams hanging him out to dry. Like hell have 30 shots against with his team having less than 10 shots for, feels like they'll lose anyway, and quits. It's a shitty attitude, but one that would thrive in a situation like Edmonton where one they're trying to win a cup and not likely to hang him out to dry near as much as Anaheim is, and two Edmonton is basically never out of a game because there is always the outside chance McDavid or Draisaitl go supernova. Worst case if he doesn't bounce back, it's the same gamble you were taking on Campbell but now you get done marginal cap flexibility.
It's a boom bust hockey trade with fringe benefits all around. I like it.
Gibson for Campbell + pick prospect sweetener? What does that sweetener look like?
