Don't blame him, although I wish he woulda been traded a couple years ago for the sake of value and also his being in his prime. Guy still could do some serious damage on a good team. As a ducks fan, I wish him nothing but the best.

A trade to the Oilers with Campbell could make sense. I believe he said he didn't want to play in Toronto last season, idk if he still feels that way or he hates Toronto or he doesn't wanna play in Canada.

He put up some abysmal numbers the last few years, I haven't really watched him, is he terrible now or is he good and the ducks D has just been that awful?

Something around Georgiev + Manson for Gibson + Henrique with some retention and picks to even everything out

That escalated quickly.
Quickly four years too late

I’d take him on buffalo for upl+Bryson+ a pick
They’re going to be the ones adding if they’re trying to move a 6.4 million dollar goalie coming off of four bad seasons.

He’s the fourth highest paid goalie in the league. And he hasn’t hit .905 since 2019

Seriously though. Last season it seemed like he was all about, "not going anywhere" and speculation was that he didn't want to be traded at all. To now, some sort of switch flipped and now he's "not playing another game for the Anaheim Ducks". Pretty wild swing.

Anyway. Going to be a tricky trade in today's cap world. He's got a lot of money owed to him, and the Ducks historically poor defensive effort in front of him makes his actual performance a bit murky.

Have to imagine wherever he goes, it's going to have to include some fairly significant bad cap moving back the other way as part of the package. But it still has to be bad cap that is actually workable for the Ducks. And they do still need to have somebody as their goaltender.

There are a few teams out there with other with bad goalie contracts and potential interest, but i'm not sure how willing the Ducks would be to take those on to make a deal work.

The other thing that's not clear in this statement from Gibson, is how open that means he is now to going anywhere else to make a deal happen.

Edmonton
I am guessing Edmonton with Campbell going the other way.

I think that makes a lot of sense tbh. Bit of a gamble both directions, but I think it's one that makes sense.

Campbell would be a great gamble for the ducks IMO. Campbell's biggest flaws are mental; getting in his own head under pressure, and pressure in Anaheim, particularly right now, is essentially zero compared to Edmonton or Toronto. Campbell's best asset is IMO his team first approach, Skinner noted that Campbell was probably his biggest coach and supporter. That matches with Anaheim grooming their young starter in Dostal worst case scenario they're just paying for that mentorship. Worst case Anaheim gets a better luck and sets up Dostal for success.

Gibson is a gamer, but he hasn't really been great for a few years. Oilers gamble that in New spot he refinds his old game. I think it's possible that he does, notably because I feel like a lot of the times when Gibson's stats are pretty bad in a game is because he tends to get frustrated the teams hanging him out to dry. Like hell have 30 shots against with his team having less than 10 shots for, feels like they'll lose anyway, and quits. It's a shitty attitude, but one that would thrive in a situation like Edmonton where one they're trying to win a cup and not likely to hang him out to dry near as much as Anaheim is, and two Edmonton is basically never out of a game because there is always the outside chance McDavid or Draisaitl go supernova. Worst case if he doesn't bounce back, it's the same gamble you were taking on Campbell but now you get done marginal cap flexibility.

It's a boom bust hockey trade with fringe benefits all around. I like it.

Gibson for Campbell + pick prospect sweetener? What does that sweetener look like?

Any word on how Anaheim is trying to move him? Are they willing to retain? Are they at the point of just giving him away for free?

Feels like he’s an interesting option for the Devils as a guy to allow Schmid to develop another year and tandem with Vanecek in the process. It’s just that contract is a deal killer in both AAV and length.
