Player Discussion John Beecher

Are they qualifying Wahlstrom? Because the only difference I see between him and Beecher is one was a Bruins draft pick and the other wasn't.
That's a little tougher. I guess no? Beecher's value is that he can play center and PK where Wahlstrom could easily be replaced by getting more proven scoring this summer.

When it comes to upgrading on Beecher, they're probably going to have to pay 2x the price. Take Kevin Stenlund for example. He scored 15 points in the regular season last year with Florida (4 more than Beecher this year) and 1 point in their cup run and got a 2x2.

He obviously lived up to the contract this year but I guess I would rather just focus all our cap space on getting scoring and a RHD and let the other chips fall into place.

Beecher had 5 points in 5 games to start the year, 6 the remaining 70 something. PK ability might be the easiest thing to find in pro hockey. Bruins have plenty of guys who can play center.

He's had two full years to establish himself. I just don't see the point in trying this failed experiment for a 3rd year. If he wasn't one of Sweeney's own 1st rounders he's probably back in the AHL already.

Does anyone actually know what Beecher's problem is?

I mean, does he not work on his game? Is he just too hockey dumb? Is he unmotivated?

It seems his lack of improvement in any aspect is quite unusual for an NHL player.
I've seen an archetype of player becoming more and more common in the league, the guy that's just happy to have the title pro hockey player next to his name and hang out with other pro hockey players and tell people he is a pro hockey player. This type of player doesn't love the game or have dedication to being the best player for his team he's just happy to have some celebrity and get paid and decent living to play a game. I obviously can't definitively say that description fits Beecher but it does seem to be trending that way, especially when you take into account the apparent spat he had with a poster here when he was drafted in regards to his league potential.

Kastelic had 5pts in his first four, 7 in October and finished the year with 14 total. That line was the only thing working for the team to start this season.

It was. But never put any stock in what players do in October. Coaches are still getting their systems in place, some players still getting up to speed, goalies working off the rust.

Hopefully we've seen the last of Beecher and Koepke.

Do tell.

Never heard about that.

They gave Kastelic 3x1.5 for his October and he was the only one who couldn't finish the season.

I wouldn't mind running back those three as line 4 next year. Seems like they clicked until they were split up and they'd be cheap too. But there are certainly bigger issues

Kastelic brings some more unique elements. Obviously fisticuffs is one, strong body-checker. That's what got him extended.

They have Lauko and Khusnutdinov here now as well. Those two along with Kastelic and someone from outside the organization would be my 10/11/12/13 forwards next year. No room for Beecher or Koepke.

They need more out of their 4th line next year than they got the previous two seasons with Beecher as an everyday part of it. Coming off one of the worst Bruin seasons in recent history seems to only make sense to turn over the bottom part of the roster, easiest places to make changes, do something different. The deadline felt like a step in that direction. I expect all 3 of Lauko, Khusnutdinov and Minten to comprise 3 of the 7 forwards on lines 3/4/extra 13th F.

I can't remember the poster but it's someone fairly regular to the board. They said when he was drafted he had made a comment on twitter or something about Beecher having a Joe Colbourne esque career best case scenario and Beecher commented and scoffed like he was gonna be this top line player. I'm pretty sure I'm getting the details right but if someone else remembers please correct any wrong info.

John Beecher is Joe Colborne in only his dirtiest dreams. He’s not half what Colborne was.

What a thing to get pissy about.

I believe that was me. I don't remember, but I posted the same comment to someone's Facebook article and got scolded by someone calling themselves John Beecher. ...Go figure.

Post Script: He has turned out to be a lesser player than Joe C.

I think both showed good skills/qualities at times, but neither showed enough consistency to warrant roster spots.

we sure it wasn`t Sweeney who replied saying he was gonna be a top line player? :sarcasm:
