Player Discussion John Beecher

I'm surprised more people aren't criticizing this player.

His first 5 games of the year, 2 goals and 3 assists.

His next 73 games of the year, 1 goal, 5 assists. From Game 6 onward he totaled one more point than he did in the first 5. That has to be a rare feat in the NHL.
There are things he does well.

Faceoffs. Skating. Shotblocking. He’s big and takes up more than his share of ice.

But he’s a ZERO with the puck in his stick. And there is no reason to carry this type of player anymore. Especially when there are plenty of other players out there who could be had for about $1M, who display every positive of Beecher and who are at least a 1.5/5 or a 2/5 with the puck.

I have no interest in Beecher being around for another season.

I'm not wasting one of the 13 or 14 forward roster spots on this guy for a 3rd consecutive year.

He won 4 more faceoffs than he lost out of every 100 faceoffs.

That's not some massive win rate that says you have to have him on your roster.

Does anyone actually know what Beecher's problem is?

I mean, does he not work on his game? Is he just too hockey dumb? Is he unmotivated?

It seems his lack of improvement in any aspect is quite unusual for an NHL player.

Maybe he has just reached his absolute peak performance and there is no more room to grow.

Combo of both perhaps. Given his mix of size and skating he should be way more effective than he actually is. Not even talking offense or anything, he has the tools to be a good, hard forechecker who can make life hard for opposing defensemen and force turnovers but he just.....doesn't. It's like he's unsure about what kind of player he is and so am I tbh.

I don't remember exactly who brought it up, may have been Jaffe on his pod or one of the many other Bs pods I listen to but the point was that Beecher never really did anything in Providence to "earn" his way to the big club and he was just kind of handed a spot out of the gate last season because the needed a body on the 4th line. Said there seems to be this vibe of "just happy to be here" with him and I'm kind of inclined to agree.

But it seems he hasn't grown since they drafted him.

Well at least since he came up to be regular for sure. He is a great skater and already had that going for him, but he never really has had great offensive chops. Maybe 22-23 in Providence was the top of his game? Just speculating of course because I agree with you he hasn't seemed to get any better and it's a little odd. It feels like the Bruins drafted a guy with not a lot of ceiling. I'm good with moving on from him. I guess qualify him and let him try to earn a job on camp, but pencil him in for Providence where he could be useful? :dunno:

If he was a UFA, would we be advocating to sign him for $900k (or whatever the number is)? Or is the motivation to offer him a qualifier due solely to the fact that we drafted him in the first round?

Personally, I have no interest in signing Lettieri for another season… but I’d rather sign him than Beecher.

Yes, the use of a first round pick and the developmental time invested probably argues for giving him one last look- he's still young. So long as whatever he signs for can be 100% buried in Providence if we have seen all that there ever will be from him, I'm good with it. There is really no downside to that in the slim hopes that he finds another level to his game.

Sweeney: we'll throw in Beecher

Other GM: no thanks. Keep them both.
Harsh lol

Swayman went against the family. I would be pissed especially if Neely but It’s business so maybe they keep him - but he’s gotta be on thin ice. He needs to stop talking unless it’s something nice abs about someone else

Sorry but I don't buy that Swayman has no value to another team, his career numbers are pretty good. He is still young and can turn his game around with another team or even with Boston.
Beecher is Beecher it's what you get, nothing special.

How is Swayman "still young" but Beecher is what you get. He's two years younger no?

Don't think anyone would roll the dice on Sway at his $ or give up anything for Beecher.
