John Amirante to return Thursday!

Since he clearly can't do it much longer, maybe have a televised contest to find a permanent replacement.

Why shouldn't they??

Going to a Rangers game is not the same without Amirante singing the National Anthem.

I love Amirante and I do believe he's a part of Rangers tradition but there are more important societal factors at play here. That's my last post in this thread before I derail it.

You would think that.

John isn't what he once was, but he is a legend in our house (MSG).

You should reevaluate your fandom.

This did not suck.

anyone that was alive to see that... Remembers it very well. Thanks for posting it... Actually brought a tear to my eye.

Don't discount what Sam said at the end either.

Equating John Amirante to Fireman Ed is the worst comparison ever and doesn't even make sense. One is a legend and Garden staple who has been singing the national anthems for years, and the other is a hack fan who gave up on his team.

Do you even know who The Chief was?

Fireman Ed is more akin to Dancing Larry.

Whenever Amirante sings, I feel like the Rangers are going to win. I don't know how much longer he'll be able to do it, but I'll be sad to see him go.

This brings up a question I had..

Some people during the anthem are throwing in the LGR at the wrong breaks, do you think thats because they're new fans or used to how he sings it to gauge when to shout it?

I've been to three games this season and ashamed to say it's ticked me off a little bit.:shakehead

I definitely think it has to be newer fans. 4-5 seasons ago was the last time I heard LGR in perfect harmony with Amirante during a playoff game (1st round Pittsburgh). Since then, I always hear fans ruining it.

I've seen fans get angry that people do that because they say its disrespectful to the anthem. To those people, I say lighten the **** upppp.

It gives me the chills, and especially with what Sam says at the end. What a night.

I think it's disrespectful (to the presentation not the anthem itself) when every break or during the singing people are shouting ****, but I think when its done at the "appropriate" break, I think it's a nice way to show acknowledgement and pride.

That sounded so much more serious than I wanted it to be. :shakehead

John takes same LIRR train ( usually w/ his wife) and gets off at same stop as I do, always nice to see people thank him and tell him he did a great job with the anthem. I told him he held the last note longer than usual last might, he smiled and said "well I was on national tv"..he's our institution, such a thing as his arm wave has become integrated into Rangers tradition..

I can't stand this guy.

I am a vet of Afghanistan and I actually think the singing of the anthem before every single game in every single NY sports venue has cheapened it and is actually insulting. It kind of takes away the importance of the anthem and makes it lose its prestige when associated with what is aching to events just a notch above a circus act. Just my humble opinion and I know I'm not the only one who feels it. It's a running joke actually.
