And?
The Wild are damned if they do and damned if they don't when it comes to local guys. If they pick one and they bust...well they should have gone with someone else. If they don't pick one and they do well....why didn't we pick the home guy? It's a no win.
Pretty much.

I get that but dang I saw the kid play 2 years for UND and I and many others were surprised he came back for a second year. I thought he was ready to jump after year 1. He’s a natural goal scorer with filthy mitts. Something the Wild could obviously use.

K. He was drafted before he ever played for UND. Hindsight is always 20/20.
I'm just saying that for local kids...it's always a double edged sword for the Wild.

Last year he had 3g, 4a in 15gp.

This year 1g, 5a in 39 gp.

On top of which, he is terrible at FO's. That is mediocre 4th line production. This guy has a lot of work to do. Enough of being the sensible, safe 1982 Volvo. Show us a pulse.

Not worried about him and see a lot of encouraging things, but I agree that he needs to start putting up some points in the 2nd half of the season here. He should have better linemates to work with, so that should be less of an excuse.

Has he actually taken many face-offs this year? It seems like he's spent a lot of time at wing so far. Either way it's something he'll need to work on.

He is playing with Coyle. Don't see where he deserves much better. Coyle is the guy stuck with a couple of offensive non entities, while Ennis is elevated in the lineup for no discernable reason other than to justify Fletcher's trade.

Ek hasn't taken many FO's because his poor early performance on them.

He's playing with Coyle now that the roster is healthier, but for much of the year he's played with Foligno, Winnik and Stewart. Like I said, it shouldn't be an excuse going forward, if it ever really was.

I'll also point out he's rocking a 1.6% shooting percentage this year, compared to 20% during his cup of coffee last year. He puts a healthy number on net; if he keeps it up they should start going in eventually.

Ennis has been good for the last few weeks, and is a better option for those elevated roles than guys like Stewart and Foligno.

He 100% passes the eye test for me. He controls the puck down low similar to Nino, who gets ridiculous praise. He goes to all the dirty areas and plays hard. He might not be putting up the points, but the EK Coyle Foligno line looked really good the last couple of games.

I think people need to get over the fact the Boeser is scoring at a high rate, and realize that EK is actually a good player.

Yeah, I like(don't love) the look of him, too, for a 21 yr. old. He will only get stronger, and he is already willing to go into dirty areas. Decent with the puck. Still, 1 goal is unacceptable. I get that you want forwards to have a 200' game, but also want them to focus extra hard in the 15' around the opposing net. You can't have your dmen outscoring you. That should be embarrassing to a forward.

He just isn't strong enough on the puck or hanging on to the puck enough so he could see openings and make plays. He does work the boards decently but doesn't play with much grit and determination to get into high scoring areas, with or without puck.

He's a lanky kid, needs to get more weight/oompf and intensity to his game (not necessarily to get bigger, although I'm sure that will come too, but play bigger). His game is too shy currently. That being said, I don't really see top line potential there, in terms of skill level. Would expect him to become a good player in the NHL though. Just not Boeser caliber. But it's part of drafting. You can find unfortunate misses with most picks every year (Kunin vs Chychrun for example). Just stings more considering Boeser is from Minnesota.

I meant that Chychrun is the better player now and has a bigger upside for the future too (IMO at least). Kunin will be an NHLer too. Good one too, probably. So it's not a "missed" pick, just the reality of drafting (out of many possibly good players you can only pick one player with one pick, so the chances are that a guy picked later will end up being better).

The miss in 2016 was dealing the 2nd rounder for Matt Moulson. Blackhawks eventually ended up with the pick and took Chad Krys but guys like Samuel Girard, Kale Clague, even Filip Hronek were drafted in that range.

I have no problem whatsoever with JEE over Boeser. The GM's propensity for dealing picks from a position of weakness is the reason this club won't achieve elite status.

Yeah. Last season the Wild was probably the deepest team in the league, and had a great year as a result. Expansion draft's timing was unfortunate and it hit the team kinda hard, but they are still very deep. Just a string of good, solid NHLers. But they are missing that high end gamebreaking talent, and draft picks is really the only way to acquire that. There shouldn't be any need to throw these assets for Hanzals and Moulsons of the world.
